So I'm upgrading the motherboard ect on my old Predator G3610 but I have found to issues.

  1. The Acer Front panel block for the power switch HDD ect doesn't match with the gigabyte motherboard I have installed is there a way to split the cables?

2. The Gigabyte motherboard has and 8 pin CPU power supply but the PSU only has 4 pin is this ok?

Thanks in advance

Stephen

The Predator G3610 has a 24 pin power plug for its mainboard with an Acer supplied 500W PSU that has a 24 pin main plug (see caption of the board below) not a 4 pin main power plug, show us a caption of the 4 pin as that is impossible!

The 4 pin plug from its PSU must be the auxiliary plug fora gpu like the oem gpu's that Acer supplied like these models; NVidia GT420, GTX460, GTX450 or the AMD HD6870, HD6850, HD5850 or the higher spec HD6750, HD6570.

If you want, you can easily upgrade the oem 500W G3610 desktops PSU to a newer and latest modular PSU to suite a higher gpu wattage (but first measure the oem Acer PSU to make sure that new PSU will fit) that will have all the auxiliary power 8pin and 6pin for the gpu, as all new mainboards have 24 pin main power plugs as does your Gigabyte mainboard. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

I know what the 24 pin power plug is for but it also has a separate 4 pin power supply (top left white socket) just for the CPU labelled CPU ATX but on my new Gigabyte Mboard the CPU power supply socket

is 8 pin and I'm not sure if the 4 pin will be ok

The 4 pin plug on your G31610 mainboard is an ATX_CPU - Auxiliary 4-pin power connector that was not used by Acer for your system, as this plug is only used if your system requires extra power from the PSU and the 4 pin plug provides additional power to the computer processor and other power hungry devices like a video, which you don't require, that is why its called an "Auxiliary plug" 😁 as I've told you before.

Which model Gigabyte board are you upgrading to? As you need to connect the Gigabyte board the way that the Gigabyte manual instructions are with the 24 pin connector, its best if you also upgrade the Acer 500W oem old PSU from its 500W to a newer 24 pin 650W plus modular PSU, you can work what your system uses with its cpu and its cooing fan, gpu and its fans, ram, HDD, case fans etc and see if the oem 500W is adequate or if you need to upgrade the PSU, that is how its done, but your Acer G3610 desktop is very old so and if you changed the board I would change the PSU also to a newer and better one. Good luck.

Actually, the AUX connector is providing extra power to the GPU slot, not to the CPU. That was needed with a few of the older GPU cards that didn't have their own power connectors. Most modern cards have AUX power connectors on them, rather than trying to rely solely on the power from the PCIe x16 slot.
