PH16-71 deny power on when on battery. Because recent Windows Update?

PH16-71 deny power on when battery powered (power cable unplugged), after recent Windows Update.

Anyone else with the same issue?

The recent updates are:

1. KB5044380.
2. "Acer Incorporated - SoftwareComponent - 1.2.101.2"
3. "ULIC Tek Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 1.0.266.0"

… all within the last three days.

You can try turning off the laptop, unplugging the charger, and holding the power button for 15 seconds to do a power reset.

Or go to the BIOS and reset to the default setting.

Hi, KB5044380 22 October2024, Battery use fixed: "A device uses too much battery power while the device is in Modern Standby". You should leave the barrel plug power adapter always connected to make sure the battery is 100% charged and you will have no issues. the Acer firmware updates only happen when you click on install these 2 Optional updates, the ULIC TEK update activates Acer Care Center if you had that disabled. It is very difficult to completely uninstall all Acer bloatware integrated as devices in the newer models, only can be stopped from running by editing the registry or disabling, not uninstalling, these devices in Device manager.

• "Battery use fix" - Yes I noticed this while readin the KB5044380 update notes. Hence my post :) See further below regarding my action w.r.t. this,
• "make sure the battery is 100% charged" - I've been hesitant to full 100% since Acer recommends 80% and even provides a 80% charge limit feature in the Acer bloatware. The 'Care center' bloatware on PH16-71. However, see below regarding my action w.r.t. this,
• "happen only when you click[…]", yes, I will be more careful around these bloat updates in the future. My experience is, allthough, that some of the bloat performs slightly better overall when updated. I have removed a lot of bloat successfully using Revo Uninstaller. Previously, I've also had some success in enhancing PH16-71 by carefully deactivation Acer services, one at a time and reviewing the effects and re-activating if deemed the better choice, using Win11 System Config > Services.

Considering:

1. Reinstalling the latest BIOS (1.16 if I remember correctly), perhaps through retro install a previous version if possible and then going 'back to future' with v. 1.16
2. Removing Acer Care center, and perhaps some recent Intel bloat, using Revo Uninstaller, and then re-installing earlier v. of Acer Care center

Steps taken and meassures: I have

• rolled back to Win11 restore point prior to KB5044380; the issue prevails
• reverted Acer bloatware settings from 80% to 100%. However, the issue remains; PH16-71 still will not power on when on battery even when battery is charged to 100%

P.s. on meassures: Also tried disabling/enabling Windows quick startup/boot from option but that did not help.

I recommend not using Revo Uninstaller and any other non-Windows uninstallers or driver support bloatware these will add unwanted keys to the Windows registry. Uninstalling Acer bloatware on recent models can only be done by disabling (not uninstalling) the Acer devices in Device Manager and if you are skilled by removing the related keys with Regedit. Stopping and disabling all Acer services (accSvc, etc.) will work if you don't click on the Optional Updates offered by Acer Incorporated.

Yes, I do edit the registry, so far so good :)

O.T. hoax or not, as mentioned, increasing from 80% to full 100% still did not keep PH16-71 from denying power up whilst on battery (100%) alone without power cable plug. It' be nice to be able to power up the computer without power cable if need be.

O.T. but I'm gonna go ahead stick my neck out here and say… no not really :) I would lean towards disagreeing on you in that regard. See, I've used that function, in Acer care latest ed. I'm aware of, twice, today. [EDIT: ver. 'Acer Care Center_Acer_4.00.3056_W11x64'] However, it is buggy as a bug. Sometimes the option does not show in freshly started Care center, sometimes it shows after a while, sometimes after reboot…

So, as off topic as it is, I still find it an illustrative example to the (lack of) quality in some/most(/all?) of Acer bloatware :)

Most of laptop vendor's bloatware are very poorly written, I have a new Asus OLED laptop and the MyAsus apps are full of bugs too. I advise you to pick up on the origin of this 40-80% battery charging limit on the web, like I have done for the past 40 years or so 😉

Just some additional information for you User_PH16_71 (sorry about the long rant😁) with the battery charging and the "October 22, 2024—KB5044380 (OS Builds 22621.4391 and 22631.4391)" which there is no way that this 24H2 update affects battery charging, as I've got this update installed on my 3 years old Nitro laptop and really the 24H2 update has improved my laptops charging and performance overall by at least 10-15%.

The 80% limit theories etc etc is a gimmick imo, as the problem that you are having with the "denying power up whilst on battery alone without power cable plug" that should not be happening on your PH16-71 is a power rail charging problem, you should have Acer look at this problem if your laptop is under warranty. As the new 24H2 update does not do that.

Just as an example, as Apple recommends all their products to not be charged fully to 100% charge and only to 80% and their batteries to never to be discharged to 0%. As my son has used his iPad 6th Gen Wi-Fi + Cellular 2018 model everyday for the last 6 years and its battery just gave up the ghost of continual 100% charging and mostly he has depleted the battery to 0% charge and then recharged it, until last week, so all that Apple warning are nonsense, as its only just last week that the battery completely died and couldn't be charged anymore and needs replacing (which I will do it for him later on) as he has a 10Th Gen iPad.

Anyway, I've always charged my laptops and smartphones batteries to 100% and allot of times have allowed their batteries to be depleted to 0% and to a turn off point, and have had the adapter plugged into the laptops DC_IN port while using the laptop on a desk, and the laptop battery has always lasted over 4 years without any depletion of charge and/or charging affects or depletion of battery power, of course and if you use your laptop as a mobile device more often than not, a new battery after 4 years will assist in the laptops functionality while mobile as that is the only additional advantage that a new battery has if replaced after 4 years, as not replacing a battery can last as long as 6 years and have no affect on the laptops charging and/or functionality.

Thanks @AnhEZ28 ! I'll try the 15 seconds when I am at my PH16-71. I already tried that, yesterday, setting all BIOS to default but the issue prevails. Thanks mate.

IT WORKED!! Previously I had only tried holding for 10 seconds, but this solved the issue! Thanks again!
