Hi all, not often I look in here, as I don't often get any problems with my two (old!) Acer V3 771 Laptops. One I use all the time and I have one for a spare.
On three occasions in recent months, I've had issues with the battery status icon on the taskbar, showing the incorrect amount of charge, or no icon at all. I've eventually managed to sort it on each occasion, but it is becoming a bit of a pain. Last night, it was showing 64% charged, but it had been plugged in all day with no other issues.
I managed to sort it again by deleting the battery & charge drivers in Device manager, removing the battery (not very old) whilst plugged in to the charger (new genuine one), powering off the Laptop and restarting it, replacing the battery and doing another restart.

I did notice that both the Microsoft AC adaptor and the Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method battery drivers are dated 2006 - some 7 years before I purchased this Laptop new in 2013, which is now coming up for 12 years old.
Are there no newer drivers for the V3 771 battery system than these?
I haven't been able to find any, and also wondered if somebody could throw some light on why this problem is happening.
FYI, the Laptop was supplied with Windows 8 which was awful, so I reverted to Windows 7 until the free upgade to Windows 10 was available, and it has been running Win 10 very well since then. It's had numerous upgrades but is still doing everything I ask of it, except for this battery charge reporting error. I know it's old, but I love it dearly and don't want to replace it.

The Aspire V3-771 is a dinosaur😂components get old and wear out, if you have the spare 2nd laptop then change the mobo as the 2nd laptops mobo charging rail might be in better condition than your working V3-771 one. There are no Acer new drivers for this laptop as Acer discontinued all drivers in 2018, try HelpDrivers V3-771 (as they are a reliable source) if they include any battery drivers for your laptop, as they have 89 files for this laptop. Also and if the battery is more than 4 years old change the battery and the adapter if its faulty (check its output voltage) then change both for new parts that are listed for the V3-771 oem parts below. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

    Hi StevenGen,

Thanks for the link to the HelpDrivers website - that will come in handy for checking drivers against those listed in Device Manager. I've been right through the list, and nothing shown for Battery or Charging drivers - these seem to be part of Microsoft.
I still don't get why these drivers are now 18 years old and have not been updated - they were produced 7 years before the V3 771 was even released.
As mentioned, the charger is a Delta one that is only a few weeks old, and the battery was also replaced a few months ago. This problem only occurs roughly once a month, and has to be software related - I did wonder if there is something in the Win 10 updates causing it.
No point in me swapping Motherboards, the other V3 771 is a complete working Laptop. It cropped up at a good price so bought it as a backup. Yep, I could give up using this one and just use the other Laptop, but I don't give in that easily! Also, I worked for Acer as a hardware tech for a couple of years in the early 2000's, so no problem dismantling & replacing componenets, but my software skills are not do great.
This has to be an intermittent software issue and would like to get to the root of the problem.
