ConceptD 7 Spatial Labs Edition - too stiff display hinges - any way to loose them up?

Hello to everyone!

in June I bought an Acer ConceptD 7 CN715-73G Spatial Labs Edition in Netherlands (I'm from Croatia) and so far Im really satisfied with a product. But I have one concern regarding hinges holding diplay attached to body of the laptop.
Well it feels like hinges are too tight when I try to open up, to the point I have to use both hands to open up. Its needless to say how ConceptD is heavy beast and you can still lift base of the laptop up while opening the lid. Moreover, althouh body and lid is made out of magnesium alloy, aim sure inside where hinges are screwed in are made out of plastic and it is matter of time when this whill get ripped apart due to tension of hinges. You can hear some tension/cracking sounds when opening a lid.

So, my question is… Is there any chance I can take of the hinge covers without breaking them so I can try to loose an adjusment screws on hinges? See the pictures under….

I assume I have to pry something to take those covers, but since there are no any service manuals available to see the right way of taking those plastic covers off, I'm afraid of breaking them off with using just a brute force... And since those covers are at the same time bottom feet for the laptop, I should be extra careful.

BTW As I can see those covers are there not attached to inner display bezel, to its a good thing, much easier to taking just those covers and not the whole thing.

So, does anyone have any idea or experience how to do it?

Thank you very much for the help! ☺️

I've take captions and made a PDF doc for you of the disassembly of the base cover and LCD as that has some captions of the hinge also, good luck and take care how you disassemble this laptop, but be aware that I don't recommend you taking this laptop apart and disassembling it and doing this sort of work with an expensive laptop like the ConceptD and especially if the laptop is under warranty. Good luck.

Your Acer ConceptD 7 CN715-73G Spatial Labs Edition is under 12 months warranty and its NOT meant to be open/serviced by a consumer, unless you want the warranty to be compromised and voided. The ConceptD hinge is a complex mechanism that this laptops service guide doesn't even have a part number for as it must be a different design to the normal Acer laptops that have an individual hinge(s) as it needs special and expertise maintenance. Its unfortunate that your ConceptD laptop hinge was set too tightly and as you open and close the lid the hinge has tightened up even more.

My advice to you is to send/take your Acer ConceptD 7 CN715-73G Spatial Labs Edition to Acer in the Netherlands asap and get their technicians to adjust and fix this problem before either the bottom or top case hinge points break on this very fine and high end laptop. Or you can do it yourself and void the warranty and if you break anything you will be up for some very expensive repairs and part costs as this laptop being at the top of the Acer range is a very expensive toy to break😁 its lower case is like USD $118.90 its upper case is $210.00 and its mainboard is a whopping $3295.00 etc etc, so those are the sort of prices that you are up for if you can get the parts also, as the ConceptD laptop parts are not just readily available. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thank you very much for the fast response time.

I know everything that you have said so far about warranty and the cost of repair particular parts of the laptop.. Indeed, its very expensive thing, that is why I asked in the first place :D

The thing is, its bit hard for me to send this unit to Netherlands anyway, so that is why I wanna try something for myself. Speaking off, since you dont know how I can take those white covers off, do you maybe have parts of service manuals with picture that could show how can I take bottom cover off and what is the right way of taking display bezels off in the case I would need it?

    Thank you in advance!

BTW I was considering to take laptop to official service center for Acer in Croatia, but now sure how competent they are, in most cases they return items without even doing anything :/
