Good morning,

I finished upgrading my Acer Aspire One ZG5 with ssd and memory but the wireless card I installed is not lighting up the front (green light) and does not show in OS. I also don't see it in bios. This was the suggested card: Intel 7260.HMW Dual Band Wireless.

I am just booting into a USB stick that has a live Linux and it is noted the drivers exist for this card so it should be auto-recognized. But I think the light not being on indicates an issue. But but not sure what it could be. Just the card slot and two antennae connectors. Anything else I should be aware of? thanks

Is the device working? If a device is non faulty and is compatible with the slot its been put it, it will show up in BIOS.

The Acer Aspire One ZG5 is old enough we no longer have detailed info available for it. IIRC it came with XP and an Atom CPU. Most of the laptops of that vintage used a miniPCI card for WiFi, is that what you got?

Ok, good to know it should be in bios. I guess maybe it is just not compatible with this machine. Not easy to find information on what cards would work with this one.

It is a mini-half PCI card that came with the expander (Aetheros card is full height mini) and is brand new. The original still works just wanted a bit more speed. thanks

Do you see any device with triangle in the device manager?

Thank you and have a nice day!

Leaving a note to help someone in the future if they need a card that works.

The Intel card never showed the light in front and this one did right away.

I even updated the bios to 30.10 and this did not fix the Intel being invisible to the system.

This one works great. You do need a little extender board with this one and it is not supplied even though the screws are. I used the one that came with the Intel board.

    Brand NETELY
    Hardware Interface 802.11 b/g/n
    Color Qualcomm Atheros AR9287
    Compatible Devices Laptop
Data Link Protocol Mini-PCIE Interface, IEEE 802.11n
Data Transfer Rate 300 megabytes per second

Maybe because the original card was Qualcomm Atheros and this one is too and is only single band?

Either way, the update of my Acer Aspire One is completed.

Online with Linux for fun in 2024. thanks
