Acer Aspire A517-51G SSD failed - how to reinstall windows?

Hi all,

I have a 2018 Acer Aspire A517-51G-55NN. It has a 128GB SSD as the main drive (with windows installed, plus most of my day-to-day files on Dropbox) and a secondary 1TB HDD which has most of my photos on (in OneDrive).

The SSD failed a few days ago, with the computer not booting and instead displaying a “no bootable devices found” message. Prior to this, the computer was being slow, with high disk usage, but a disk scan showed no issues with the SSD.

Does anyone have any advice on how to:

1) troubleshoot the SSD to see if it is salvageable; and

2) how to install windows on a new drive without having to buy a new copy of windows (I have already seen instructions on installing a new SSD)?
I do have some old backups of the SSD drive but I would prefer a new install as I have DropBox on the drive linked to another laptop and don’t want to mess things up.
Thanks in advance!
