Dear Acer Community,

I own an Acer Predator Triton 500 PT516-51s-98E0 (Intel Core i9-11900H, NVIDIA RTX 3080).

NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Drivers: 565.90 WHQL.

Recently I have begun experiencing Discrete GPU Usage Peaks, without any applications running on the NVIDIA RTX 3080, nor any display connected to it. This strange behavior seems to uselessly increase the fan speed.

I have tried reverting to previous versions of the NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Drivers or disabling "Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling" on Windows 11, without any success.

The issue seems to have appeared after the installation of Windows Update KB5043145.

Could anyone help me with this, please?

Check Background Processes: Use Task Manager to identify any background applications utilizing the GPU. keep Task Manager on the side while using your laptop and monitor GPU usage, follow these steps:

    1. Open Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to launch it.
    2. Enable Always on Top: Click on the gear icon for settings, then check the "Always on top" option. This keeps Task Manager visible above other windows.
    3. Monitor GPU Usage: With Task Manager open, switch to the "Processes" tab and observe the GPU column to identify any processes using the discrete GPU. Make sure you keep an eye on Dgpu not igpu.

This setup allows you to quickly see which processes are utilizing the GPU even as they appear and disappear

Additional note- Someone on reddit said- It seems that some of the spikes are caused ba the backround noise suppression from Nvidia Broadcast. Disabling it causes less to appear.

-Also disconnecting the PC from the Internet soothes the clock speed out completely.

-Disabling Wallpaper engine brings everything to normal values. Tho some spikes stay.

-It seems the combination of Broadcast and Wallpaper engine causes a lot of irregularities.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Inside Task Manager, all Processes that use a Graphics Card are employing the Integrated Graphics Card (GPU 0), not the Discrete Graphics Card (GPU 1).

When the Discrete GPU Usage Spikes appear inside PredatorSense, the Discrete Graphics Card (GPU 1) appears unused inside Task Manager. I cannot identify any process using the NVIDIA RTX 3080.

I don't use NVIDIA Broadcast, nor Wallpaper Engine.

    Any other ideas?

I'm now seeing that the "System" process is periodically using the "GPU 1 - Copy". This wasn't appearing before.

Many users have reported similar issues after this update, which can cause unnecessary GPU activity and increased fan speeds even without applications running.

To troubleshoot, consider uninstalling the update as a temporary solution until a fix is released or perform system restore point to get back to previous condition.
