Hi,

My laptop recently hasn’t been turning on sometimes when I press the power button and doesn’t shut off propely and the blue light and fan stay on.

My time also keeps not updating and I have to manually sync it.

I am pretty sure it’s a cmos problem. I have taken it apart and everything is connected fine. I believe the cmos battery is underneath the ssd and I tried removing the connector but it wouldn’t come out.

Also, when I press down on the laptop sometimes, it turns on .

can anyone help me ?

Tell us your full Aspire5 model like a515-54G and OS (system time is also controlled in Windows), the CMOS module is often under the SSD and the thin black cover needs to be cut (cut a small slit) with a razor blade that you can close again with a piece of electrical tape, the cover stretches so no need to cut it completely. Alternatively buy a new CMOS (also called RTC) module with wires and plug online, cheap and easy to plug in. If your laptop is less than 6 years old, I doubt the CMOS coin battery is bad as these last 12 years or more.

The most common RTC/BIOS batteries for the Aspire 5 laptops and desktops are the CR2032 type button battery that are just the battery (that is in desktops and the older Aspire laptops) which are fitted into the mobo plug, or the newer Aspire 5 laptops have the enclosed CR2032 battery and plug like in the caption below. Acer does not have a part number for these batteries. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
