i've tried everything. uninstalled and reinstalled the touchscreen, followed all suggestions. Went onto the Acer websit to find drivers, was directed to a company which found numerous outdated Acer drivers, but which has been slated on the internet for being untrustworthy, so i avoided it. In any case, all my drivers are up to date. i'm not that stupid. The Touchscreen driver by the way is dated 2006 and is up to date.

The touchscreen has even highlited this dialogue! This is a new computer. What can i do now?

Do a system restore to a date when the touchscreen was still OK, you won't loose any data just the Windows updates you installed in that period. Type Restore in the Search bar and click on "Create a restore point" and "System Restore" select a date, takes 5 minutes to restore.

What computer do you have? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. What OS is running on it? In the end Acer technical dept , who I contacted after posting this query, suggested I factory reset the laptop which I did …reluctantly. It worked. Unfortunately, as it was a new laptop, i hadn't done a system restore. I have an Acer Swift Go. The sound is terrible and I had to install a new sound app, which has improved matters no end, Thanks for your help.
