Predator Helios PH317-55 Corner of Screen Flickering

My Predator PH317-55 (Predator Helios 300) has an issue where the corner of the screen will brighten randomly, or flicker

At 60/165Hz and no applications open, the screen appears normal. At 82.5/83Hz, the contrast appears to increase dramatically.

When returning to 165Hz and running a graphic intensive application or program, the contrast appears to flicker randomly, appearing as a wave that originates from the bottom right corner of the screen.

This test was run with the graphics drivers Acer recommended from their support page.
Intel VGA Driver(UMA) 30.0.101.1273 for W11x64, dated 17OCT2022.

Previous tests were run that were not recorded using the most recent Intel Arc Control application, Intel Graphics Driver 32.0.101.6083/32.0.101.5736 and bore the same results.

I've searched for similar experiences online but have found few and no answers or solutions. Insight to what may be causing this will be greatly appreciated.

The flickering of the screen is a common thing in Predator and Nitro laptops (it happens on my 2 yrs old Nitro) it comes from the Intel graphics driver, uninstall all graphics drivers not only the Intel with DUU then install the NVidia latest gaming driver for the gpu and the oem Acer PH317-55 VGA Driver (UMA) version: 30.0.101.1273 like you did, as this drive should stop the flickering then allow windows update to update to the most compatible Intel driver for your PH317-55 laptop, this worked 100% for my Nitro and stopped all screen flickering forever as I'm not getting the flickering anymore.

If the above doesn't fix the flickering, then your screen has a backlight problem and/or the flickering is caused by a hardware problem and could be the eDP cable or the actual screen that is at fault and they need replacing, but try the fix above. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

If your Predator Helios PH317-55 has a corner of the screen flickering, it could be due to several factors such as a loose display connection, outdated graphics drivers, or a hardware issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure your GPU drivers are up to date by downloading the latest version from NVIDIA’s or Intel's website.
    2. Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, Windows updates can resolve display-related bugs.
    3. Test in Safe Mode: Boot into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If not, it could be a software conflict.
    4. External Monitor Test: Connect to an external monitor. If the flickering is only on the laptop's screen, it may indicate a hardware issue.
    5. Contact Support: If the flickering continues, reach out to Acer support for a hardware inspection.

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

I assumed you mean DDU instead of DUU, so I used that to uninstall both Intel and NVidia drivers in safe mode, then reinstalled via the GeForce Experience program and the direct link you provided. I ran Windows update but found no updates for the GPU.

Unfortunately, the problem persists on the integrated display (and only on this display), so I'll be looking into the hardware side of this. The machine is already well past its warranty, so I'll see about fixing it myself and update later.

Yes, I did mean DDU 😀sorry its my mistake. But that is about what is happening with your laptop and especially with older laptops and these gaming laptops, as its either the Intel driver the gpu or the cable or screen are the main culprits of the screen flickering issues. Best is to do a test through the HDMI with an external monitor and see if the flickering still happens as then you csan narrow the screen and/or the gpu as the main culprit. I passed on what my experience(s) have been with my 3 years old Nitro 5 laptop and provided you with the parts that could be the problem. Good luck and hope you sort this problem out.

There may be several reasons for your laptop screen flickering:-

Loose or damaged cable connection: A faulty cable connecting the screen to the motherboard may cause flickering.

Outdated or incompatible drivers: If your computer’s display drivers are outdated or incompatible, it may lead to screen flickering issues.

Faulty screen or hardware: A faulty screen or internal hardware component can also cause flickering.

Overheating: Overheating the laptop can cause the screen flickering issue.

Software issues: Some software or apps may cause some problems, leading to screen flickering.

Incorrect refresh rate: An incorrect refresh rate setting may also result in a flickering screen issue.

You can start by checking your HDMI, Display-Port, or USB-C cables. Ensure that the cables are securely connected to both the monitor and the laptop. Make sure that the cable is fully tightened and it doesn’t look
or feel loose. This applies to all cable types, which can become loose for various reasons. Plug in your system to an external monitor to check if the issue reoccurs. If the problem does not occur on the external
display, it may be due to a hardware issue with the laptop’s screen.

Next is to make sure that the graphic card driver is update. Outdated drivers may cause incompatibility, leading to screen flickering problems. Regularly updating drivers ensures optimal performance and a
    flicker-free experience.

Also to note overheating can cause hardware issues so, routinely check your laptop’s temperature to ensure it is not overheating. Make sure you clean any dust or debris from the vents and fans to improve airflow.

It is for sure a hardware issue, as the other connected monitors do not show the same symptoms. I've tested on two external displays, and they work fine.

Where would you recommend I buy the parts from?
