No Sound and Skype Sound Saying muted, when settings are unmuted

A previous problem I put on here last week about both Mic and Sound not working is now almost resolved, my MIC is working ok, but not the sound. I can hear nothing on Youtube videos, BBC Sounds or Skype, but on Skype I can use the 'captions' to get a transcript of what people are saying, so sound is coming in somewhere, otherwise that wouldn't work. A message at the bottom of the Skype screen says sound is muted, but it isn't, and it isn't muted on Windows either. I have gone in and out of Skype, turned settings on and off and re-started my laptop, but still no sound.

Hi, these apps take complete control of your media adapters, so you need the set the audio options in these individual programs and allow apps to use your media adapters (see last picture):

Note that the second picture above is ambivalent as it must be set to Don't allow while this is the correct setting to allow apps and Windows to use the speakers, that's Microsoft "at its best" 😑
