Hello everyone, I have recently experienced that my computer suddenly just turns off. I mean I don't know that it really turning off, but the screen turns black, no reaction to any key or mouse, looks like is off but the little white light at the bottom is on. I have to hold the button for a while to turn it off completely and turn it on again. I am worried as it does more often and often and a bit scared that it will just stop working. It is also annoying as I am in the middle of working, writing a mail and it just goes black and takes time to get it back to life. Yesterday turned off while watching a movie on netflix. Can someone help me to solve this problem? I have the Aspire C-24 desktop model

[Edited the thread to add model name to the title]

Hi, in Windows type Power Plan in Search and click on Change advanced settings and set Sleep mode to this:

So many things, always check your AC input, wall plug, cord secureness at the AC input then eliminate RAM by elimination, removing down to one unit. .

I'd reseat the Rams units 1st and check cabling inside.

It could be your hard drive too.

Those symptoms point towards an issue with it getting hung instead of actually turning off. That's why you can long press the power to force a full power off, then turn it back on normally. Getting hung like that might be either hardware or software. If it happen often enough that you can test for it, boot into safe mode then see if it still happens. If not then we will want to look at what's running when booted normally vs. what's running when in safe mode.

There are many possible reasons for this, such as: Hard drive or SSD may be failing. Computer overheats due to dust, old thermal paste or failing fan (the most common cause). Battery and/or power supply may be failing. There are also chances that your fans are clogged with lint and causing the laptop to overheat and shut down, hence need a clean-up. Also, Try a different power adapter if possible. If that doesn't work, the problem may require professional diagnosis.

Heheh, ignore that last post. It assumes you are overheating, and thermal shutdown presents with different symptoms.
