Hi, for a number of years now I have tried to update the bios on my Extensa 5235 before upgrading the cpu.

Every time I try the site says snid and serial are not recognised even though I know 100% that they are correct and confirmed by the auto detect program.

The unit is from UK, bought in the UK and still in the UK. I have tried entering the details on the UK site and also US etc, just in case.

I cannot get any support as the Acer sites will not accept the info.

I have read pages of the community answers, links etc but still getting nowhere.

Can someone please tell me why so many people are having so much trouble getting Acers sites to accept the valid information of their devices?

Can anyone please tell me how to get the site to accept my devices valid information?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi, this is a 2009 legacy Windows7 laptop that is no longer supported by either Acer or Microsoft, consider installing Linux.

This is an old model and its driver's website has been removed.
For upgrading the CPU you don't need to update the BIOS. Check the compatibility with the chipset to ensure that it supports the CPU that you are trying to upgrade.

Thank you and have a nice day!

For older models like this, if Acer still has support downloads you just enter the model number (Extensa 5235) rather than the SN or SNID. Those databases are purged at some point after the last units go out of warranty, and that means some time after 2014 for your system. :) As mentioned, a BIOS update isn't going to support any CPUs that the chipset didn't originally support. In your case, the GM45/GL40 Express Chipset. Here is the list of supported processors:

What do you have installed right now? BTW, it wasn't really a Windows 7 machine, it came with Vista. :)
