Congratulations!
I decided to upgrade my laptop, namely add a little more memory for my Acer Nitro 5 AN 517-55-52XR. I decided to buy a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD. Please let me know if it will fit my laptop? How many memory slots is there in my laptop? And will I be able to put this SSD in addition to what I already have?
Thanks in advance for your reply!

These are the specs of your Nitro AN517-55 laptops M.2 SSD drives slots as they are both a Gen 4 x4 lane type drive slot.

The fastest Read/Write M.2 Gen 4 x4 lane drive speed tested drive is the Samsung 990 Pro NVMe drives of the 1TB, 2TB or 4TB capacities, so the 2TB Samsung 990 Pro that you have is the fastest drive and use it as a boot drive in Storage 1.

Install the Samsung Magician software and use the Data Migration section of this software to clone your old AN5157-55 M.2 SSD drive onto the new Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD drive as its much faster and will make your AN517-55 boot drive work faster at read/write speeds. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Explained plainly these are the deterrence's and the preferred drives that you should have in your Nitro AN517-55 laprop:

NVMe is the abbreviation of Non-Volatile Memory Express. It is a new storage access and file transfer protocol for flash memory and next-generation SSD (solid-state drives). The NVMe protocol allows users to access flash storage through the PCI Express (PCIe) bus, which can support thousands of parallel command queues. So it is much faster than HDD (hard disk drive) and traditional all-flash architecture.

NAND is a kind of flash memory. It can be found in SSDs, USB flash drives and SD cards, and other storage devices. NAND memory is non-volatile, which means it retains its data even when the power is turned off. NAND flash is likely to appear in any place that has artificial intelligence (AI) and needs to store data. There are currently five types of NAND flash memory storage, and the difference among each type is the number of bits that each cell can store. Each cell can store data – SLC NAND has one bit per cell, MLC has two bits per cell, TLC has 3 bits per cell, QLC has 4 bits per cell, and PLC has 5 bits per cell.

Note: The performance of NVMe drives is significantly better than 3D NAND SSDs, as they can handle a higher number of input/output operations per second (IOPS) and have lower latency. This makes them ideal for applications requiring real-time, high-speed data processing.

    I have a question left.
In the SSD I chose PCIe, and the one you wrote about is NVMe.
Could you explain in a slightly more accessible way for me what the difference is?
For example, I found the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe 2.0 V-NAND 3bit MLC SSD (MZ-V9P2T0BW) and the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 V-NAND 3-bit MLC SSD ( MZ-V9P2T0CW). Explain to me the difference between them and what I should choose in the end.
Once again, thank you very much!

  • There are two specifications for the AN517-55 laptop as its either comes with DDR4 or DDR5 type memory modules, the below specs are for both 2x ram slots that this latop has:

    DDR4

    DDR5

Sorry, my question is about SSD. Unfortunately, your answer did not help me.

Once again, thank you very much!

    I apologize for the confusion
