Aspire 3 A315-21-95kf - Installed 1TB M.2 2280 SATA B&M key internal drive but no workie

I have an open m.2 slot on my A315.21 laptop. I purchased and installed a WD M.2 2280 SATA drive with the B&M key configuration. I have the latest 1.25 BIOS version installed but no matter what I try the new drive is not recognized. Any suggestions from someone who has successfully expanded their A315-21 laptop?

Hi, make sure the WD SSD is working in another PC and is indeed the B&M Sata not a M key NVMe SSD, The Sata SSD should work unless bad or the PCIe slot contacts fail.

The below Storage specs are the M.2 SSD interface specs for the Aspire A315-21 laptop from its service manual and all those spec drives will workie 😀the M.2 slot is for a "B&M key" SATA M.2 SSD drive only.

Also and with these types of drives make sure that you execute the TRIM command within windows as that will increase the lifespan of your SSD and make it perform much quicker and more efficiently.

Acer A315-21 service guide only lists up to 256GB B&M end key SATA-M.2 SSD drives for this laptop, but a 1TB should work as the capacity in windows operating system is governed by the format as MBR/Legays can be up to 2.2TB and GUID (GPT) format up to 8 petabytes, so be aware od=f this as it might be that the 1TB drive might be faulty or the laptop slot is faulty, so check both of those things out.

Thanks to the above two posters. I've confirmed the m.2 b&M ssd works in another instance so am leaning towards the port or pins being bad unfortunately. I may pick up another 128/256 drive though to check if it's a capacity issue per the service guide reference given above…that would be a shame but better than no workie I guess.
