My AN515-57 Acer nitro gaming computer randomly shut off and never turning on Any help?

This happened one time when my little brother was playing on my computer, and told me that the computer would just randomly

shut off and would never turn on again from there on out. I then tried to turn it on but would not turn on, as I also tried to charge it but that didn’t work either. I don’t think it’s the battery because this computer is recently new, and the temperatures were at a all time normal, so what could be the issue here?

This is a common problem with especially new Nitro laptops (happened to my new AN515-56 Nitro laptop) and the only fix for this is a Hard Reset that needs the laptops back cover to be opened and the main battery removed and the RTC/BIOS battery needs to be disconnected and its + & - pins at the mainboard plug need to be shorted out to reset the CMOS, as that will fix this problem and you shouldn't have this happen again, as what happens is that the EC and Chipset chips freeze or get stuck and the laptop stops and can't be rebooted as the power key is governed by these chips and its dead and does not function, so resetting will fix this issue. In very rare and or in extreme cases the main power rail shorts out and needs repairing by a technician so if the reset doesn't fix this isue you will need to take your laptop toa technician. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Note: If your Acer Nitro AN515-57 is new and still under Acer warranty then book a service call and send/take your laptop to Acer Tech Support and get the Acer technicians to fix this problem under Acer warranty.

2 years I had this computer and expected to last more then that, since it’s a gaming computer, and never had any problems beforehand, which is weird for that to happen out of nowhere.

  • Yes, this is common even after 2 years in these latops, there is nothing wrong with your laptop internally as these EC and chipsets freeze or get stuck frequently and a reset usually fixes them, so don't stress out.

But if the reset doesn't work, then there could be other issues that affect all gaming laptop and NOT only Acer laptops, like they could have a shorted EC chip that can be changed but if its the chipset then you can't buy new chipsets and you need a new mainboard, it could also be a main power rail which can be fixed but if a main power rail has shorted and a protective mosats that filter high voltages from the cpu or gpu has blown, then and if the cpu is shorted out you will need a new mainboard of if its the NVidia gpu has shorted out, then the cpu graphics can be used and you will have to get a technician to disables the NVidia gpu so you can have graphics on the laptop, so those are all the scenarios that could be going on in your laptop, explained in a simplistic way. Good luck and hope its just a rest issue happening with your Nitro laptop👍

Wait what do I need to remove in order to do this hard reset? I don’t wanna damage any components in the computer.

  • To do a Hard Reset you only need to remove the main battery and disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and remove the ram, so do this:

Unscrew the eleven (11) screws of the back cover, pry the right edge side first to release the latches of the back cover and pry the back cover open, take the main battery out first, disconnect the bios battery and then short the bios batteries + & - pins at the mainboard plug and take the ram out, leave the laptop like that for at least 1 hour (preferably overnight).

Afterwards reconnect everything and if you have 2x ram modules only connect 1x ram module first and alternate the ram to see if the ram is not the issue of the laptop shutting down or not booting properly or its the EC or Chipset chips that are causing this boot issue as this hard reset will reset all the laptop and the laptop shout come back to its initial state.

If the laptop still exhibits the same symptoms, take your laptop to a technician as it needs its EC chips changed or if its the chipset you need a new mainboard. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

I think my rtc/bios battery is different, when I took out the main battery, I saw this wired, circular thing attached to something, is that the cmos battery that was at the bottom of the battery?

also mind sending an example picture of the rtc/bios battery, since I don’t know which is which.

Alright I kinda did what you told me, but turns out it didn’t work, but thank you for trying your best to help me, but I think it could be a motherboard issue or something else internally. This is the last time I ever open the bottom cover of my laptop, to ensure no damage or any internal issues. I will send this to a technician to further investigate the issue.

  • The RTC/BIOS battery is underneath the main battery on the left (next to the 2.5" HDD space like in the caption below, now you unplug this battery and get a small metal flat screwdriver and short these batteries + & - plug pins as that will reset the CMOS after you have unplugged the battery.

If this doesn't work, then you have mainboard issues with its main power rail circuitries that only a technician can pinpoint and fix. Good luck
