Slow Wi-Fi Predator Helios Neo 18, it's incredibly slow connecting to my Wi-Fi network

Let me start with, I am non technical, I know nothing about computers. I use my laptop to run embroidery software which uses a lot of processor and excel/word etc.

I've just purchased this laptop and it's incredibly slow connecting to my Wi-Fi network, my old 6 year old laptop was incredibly fast. It took hours to download Google Chrome for example and just opening a browser window, takes forever to load the front page.

I have a NowTV broadband router (super fibre) and a Joowin Wi-Fi repeater. I've worked out that it's when I'm using the repeater that the Wi-Fi is slow, when I move near to the router it's quite a bit better, but still not as fast as my other devices. I work from a sunroom which is the opposite end of my house, so I use the repeater to boost my signal. My other devices can pick up a weak signal from the router, but this new predator doesn't even register a weak signal from the router. I also noted that it's on 5GHz when connected with the router and 2.4GHz when connecting to the repeater. The repeater only has 2.4GHz.

I'm happy to buy a dual band repeater, but I'm not sure if this will solve the problem. All my other laptops and televisions work fine off the Joowin repeater, so I'm quite perplexed why this new laptop doesn't when it cost so much! I'd expect it be even faster on my network.

Any ideas please? Thank you.

You’re PHN18-71 or 72 Acer Predator Helios Neo laptop should connect straight to your 5Gh signal modem router and your Joowin repeater 2.4Gh which could be what is slowing the signal down, As these repeaters are a signal booster that increases the range of your existing Wi-Fi and creates stronger signal in hard-to-reach areas. Please note that it can’t increase your Wi-Fi speed of your router, the speed of the extending Wi-Fi will be reduced so that could be the problem.

Your PHN18-71 or 72 laptop has a Killer 1675i Wi-Fi /BT Combo Module Interface card that has a Data Throughput of the following:

    • Wi-Fi: 2TX/2RX, transmission rate can up to 2Gbps in 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6E)
    • Bluetooth 5.2 : Transmission rate up to 3Mbps / Bluetooth Audio Offload

So, your Wi-Fi card inside your PHN18-71/72 laptop is very quick and has no effect on the speed of your wireless LAN from your NowTV broadband router or the 2.5GH Joowin repeater which could be the problem of why you are getting the slow Wi-Fi speeds and drop(s)! So get a technician or if you are computer savvy check your modem and repeater out for problems!

You can also make sure that your PHN16-71/72 laptops WLAN driver is correctly installed and working 100% by refreshing the existing driver, by doing the following:

Go to > Device Manager > Network adapters > Killer 1675i Wi-Fi 6E Card > right click to Properties > Driver > Update Driver > Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer > and then pick the latest dated Wi-Fi driver that is in that list, and reinstall that driver, as afterwards your Wi-Fi should be refreshed and properly installed.

Or you can reinstall to the latest Killer 1675i Wi-Fi 6E driver version: BT-28/70.3-64UWD-Win10-Win11.exe from here: download manually and install this drivers through its application .exe manually and see if this new driver fixes the slow speeds of your Wi-Fi signal. Good luck and hope this helps you out to sort this problem, if you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask.

    Open settings→update & security

    1. First pause window update
    2. Then go to delivery optimization tab and Turn off delivery optimization

Open device manager→expand network adapters→right click on your Wi-Fi driver→go to properties→go to advanced tab
Now one by one select Large Send Offload V2 (IPv4) and Large Send Offload V2 (IPv6) then disable it(under value)

Now restart your laptop and check.

Axxo's advice helped quite a bit. It's still slower than my old laptop though.
