Predator helios 16 ph16-71 storage Issue, there's barely any storage space while installing programs

Hello, So I just got my Predator Helios 16 ph16-71 laptop, and I have installed windows 11 (first time doing that) on it. Now, when I'm starting to install new programs on it I have noticed that there's barely any storage space, only 464GB which is way less than there should be. So I checked my disk management and there is only Disk 0 there with the 476gb of storage space. Surely something's wrong and there should be more disks (more space too). So I am asking for help here, since I'm very new to this stuff. What could be done? My initial idea was to check if something wasn't properly set up in bios, but I haven't done that yet. I'd like a more informed advice from someone who knows better than I do. Thanks!

Boot to BIOS with F2 and change the default SATA mode from RST-Optane/Raid to AHCI and save changes on exit BIOS. If you don't see the AHCI option in MAIN screen BIOS press Ctrl+S to show the advanced settings.

Just to assit you further with additional information. Please tell us what is the size of the M.2 boot drive of your Predator Helios PH16-71 laptop model came with from Acer? As Acer fitted 512GB, 1TB and 2TB oem type M.2 boot drives and your PH16-71 probably has a Gen 4 x4 512GB boot drive and after the Win-11 installation and format of the drive the capacity is 476GB which is very normal.

A 512GB drive with Win-11 that takes 27GB plus its updates that take 12GB takes a total of 39GB so having a 512GB boot drive showing in Disk Mangement as having 476GB is NORMAL.

Read this: A fresh installation of Windows 11 Home typically takes up around 27 GB3. Additionally, updates and new features can require extra space over time. It’s recommended to have at least 128 GB of storage for a more comfortable experience

Below are all the Acer listed Gen 4 x4 M.2 SSD drives that Acer fitted oem to different models of the PH16-71 laptop models:

Disk 0 is the normal boot drive so your drive is properley formatted and shown and a capacity of 476GB is normal for a boot drive that has Win-11 OS installed, as I don't see what your problem is?

Note: if you have a 1TB M.2 Gen 4 x4 boot drive and the 1TB M.2 drive is showing 475GB capacity with Win-11 installed, then these factors could be the problem:

    1. System Reserved Partitions: Windows often creates hidden partitions for system recovery, boot management, and other purposes. These can take up a significant amount of space.
    2. File System Overhead: The file system itself (like NTFS) uses some space for its own metadata and structures.
    3. Manufacturer vs. Actual Capacity: Hard drive manufacturers often define 1TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, while Windows defines it as 1,099,511,627,776 bytes (1TB = 1024^4 bytes). This difference can lead to a lower reported capacity.
    4. Pre-installed Software: If your drive came with pre-installed software or a recovery partition, this can also reduce the available space.
    5. Windows Installation: The Windows 11 installation itself, along with updates and system files, can take up a substantial amount of space.

To get a clearer picture, you can check the partitions on your drive using Disk Management:

    1. Press Win + X and select Disk Management.
    2. Look at the partitions and their sizes to see how the space is allocated.

Good luck and hope this has helped you out further!
