Acer Nitro V15 Notebook - Sudden Fan Speed Spikes on GPU

Hello everyone,

I have an Acer Nitro V15 notebook, and I've noticed an issue where the fan speeds up intermittently. According to Fan Control, the fan that's speeding up is the GPU fan, reaching speeds of around 6900 RPM with a temperature of 41°C. The fan doesn’t run at high speed for long—usually just 3-5 seconds before stopping, then it repeats after a while. Sometimes, it lasts longer, around 10-20 seconds.

I initially thought it could be caused by some software running in the background, so I closed all applications and even went into the BIOS settings to monitor the system. However, the fan still occasionally ramps up even when idle in BIOS.

Does anyone know what might be causing this issue and how to fix it?

The GPU fan might be occasionally stalling due to bearing starting to wear out. BIOS is designed to detect stalls. It should automatically apply full voltage to overcome a fan stall. Then reduces fan voltage & speed consistent with low temp. Replacing the fan will probably fix the issue if it gets worse.
