Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R09N not starting when battery is plugged in

A few months ago my laptop (Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R09N) suddenly shut down and I wasn't able to turn it back on again. Each time I tried to start it, it would launch the start-up process for a few seconds and then shuts itself down again. I figured out that if I disconnect the battery, the laptop will work normally (only when plugged in, of course).

Furthermore, when the battery is plugged in and I plug in the charging cable, the computer makes a weird high-pitched sound for like 2 or 3 seconds and the charging LED turns orange.

Once I try to start the laptop (which fails quickly as described), the charging LED turns completely off (even though the charger is plugged in) and pressing the power button has no effect at all anymore. If I then unplug and replug the charger, the weird high-pitched sound comes again and the charging LED turns orange again and the computer tries to boot again for a few seconds when pressing the power button. You can basically play this forever.

What I've tried:

  • Uninstall the AC adapter driver and ACPI control driver
  • Battery reset
  • New battery: The battery came recharged with about 60%. After installation it seemed to work just fine (with and without charging cable). However, even when plugged in, the battery was slowly losing its percentage until the laptop suddenly shut down and showed the same behavior as described above. Hence, my conclusion was that the computer can get power from the battery but is not able to put power into the battery.

Does someone have any idea if there is a possible fix to this issue? Would be great if I could use the battery again.

Hi, IMO, the battery is bad or not compatible with Windows11, this is a 2019 laptop, did you install a new battery or is this the original 6-year old battery? Run a battery report: paste this in the command prompt: powercfg /batteryreport and open the report with your Edge browser, right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert.

Thanks for your answer @Puraw. The battery that is installed currently is the original one. The replacement battery that I tried was not an original one but compatible with this particular laptop. I sent that one back since it didn't solve the problem.

    I'm running Windows 10.

    Battery report attached.

p.s.: I meant precharged in the first post. (not recharged)

That is what I thought, have a look at the red box on your battery report, looks like in June 2024 either the battery died, or you took the battery out 2 months ago. Connected Standby must be supported by the battery, as you already tried a new battery without results, I recommend bringing the laptop to Acer Services in your country to reset the system to factory default and to replace the battery. Include the power adapter as there may be an issue with the DC plug making bad contact inside the DC socket of your laptop.
