I have a acer SF314-59 and the plug keeps falling out of the computer. Is there an adapter I can plug into the computer, then plug my power cord into that adapter? I hope that would solve my issue. What size does the ac adapter uses to plug into the computer.

Hi, buy the 65-W model: Power adapter for Acer Swift 3 SF314-59 (power-adapter-store.com) Don't use detachable DC plugs as these make things worse and check the condition of the DC port of the laptop, if you see dark burn marks or deformation inside (should be perfectly round) have the soldered DC socket replaced by Acer Services in your country (not expensive).

no burn marks and the one that came with it is ok BUT it has tendency to fall out. I was hoping to find something that will stay in the dc port & plug in my adapter into that.

The power supply tip is specced as a "YELLOW TIP - 1.1X3.0X7.7". The socket it plugs into is soldered directly to the motherboard, and the hinge on that side has an arm that sits on top of the connector to provide extra support. That means it's really hard for the socket to come loose. Are you sure you are plugging the jack in all the way? There should be an internal spring that helps to lock it in place, but only if it's fully seated. Those 3.0mm tips are inherently less able to stay in place than the older 5.5mm tips, but that's one of the tradeoffs for having a thin system. If you do try to go the route of an adapter, be sure it's got the 1.1mm internal hole, not the 1.35mm type and that it's at least the full 7.7mm long so it can fully seat.

    Billesy,

It does click into place, But the cord is curved (hard to explain) so when the laptop is in my lap & I move the plug comes out easily and often. I need to be in just the right place or not move or have it on a table and its ok.

I wonder IF I can use the USB-C/thunderbolt port to charge my laptop? I have the SF314/59. I also looked at buying this charger below in hopes that I would have 2 ways to charge my laptop. Any idea if this will work to charge it??

    Universal 100W USB-C Laptop Charger for Lenovo,HP,Acer,Dell,Asus,Mac Book Pro/Air 16, 15, 14, 13 Inch, Chromebook, Lenovo ThinkPad and Type-C Adapter Charger (SM100CL-01)

I believe the Thunderbolt port does support charging the laptop with your model. You need a 65W or larger charger and it should support charging at 20V. That one says it does 20V@5A, so plenty of power.

    Billsey,

FYI ………….. I did order the Universal 100W USB-C Laptop Charger Type-C Adapter Charger (SM100CL-01) and as you suspected. IT DOES WORK and it has a much firmer feel when connected.

I highly doubt it will fall out or become loose. I wonder why when I asked acer these questions no one there know about this workaround? You did know and I am grateful. It works very well & stays in place.

    Thank you….😁

There are so many different, but similar, models out there that it can be tough to find someone who has the same model, has the same issue, and has solved it themselves… :) I've found that when a USB-C type charger is used, it sometimes helps to give the wire a half twist to allow it to stay in better.
