Is there supposed to be a space like this on my GPU? It’s an Acer RTX 3060 in Predator PO3-630

I’ve been having black screen troubles recently on occasion while gaming, but never while browsing YouTube. I fully wiped my PC, so I don’t think it’s software related, but the issue persists, and WhoCrashed says it could be graphics card hardware malfunction or overheating. So should there be a small gap right above my thumb? Do I need to put new thermal paste on it, or is it to do with the screws? This is the Predator PO3-630

As far as I can see, the GPU fans are pointing down and the gap is between the PCB and backplate. Most GPUs tend to have plastic backplates, making them terrible conductors of heat. IMHO, the gap is there for a reason.

[Adding pads "under" RAM chips and VRMs will not hurt, but it won't help that much either. Actually, it might even make them hotter, but this varies by case and backplate material. Sometimes removing the mostly for show (and some protection) backplate can lower the GPU core and VRAM temps a little if the air circulation in the case is good.]

The card is easy to take apart. Open her up and take a closer look. Maybe you'll spot a faulty component or missing SMD (surface mount resistor)? Clean the card, heastink and fans and check the thermal pads. Are the fans spinning normally?

Replace pads if needed. Apply new paste and see if it will help.
