Hello everyone,

I have Acer Predator PHN16-71 Intel i7 13700HX, 32GB RAM, 1TB stoarage and the Nvidia RTX 4070. It has BIOS V1.13 .

I have an issue that only seems to occur when the Nvidia display mode is set to Auto Select (Advanced Optimus). On this setting after playing a game which switches the GPU to the Nvidia GPU only, I will exit the game which then auto selects Optimus as normal, I find that shortly after I am faced with an issue of screen hanging/freeze which happens every 5-10 seconds for about 2 seconds. The screen and mouse freezes during this period and then runs normal again until it happens again. It will do this until I reboot the laptop or switch the Nvidia settings manually to Nvidia GPU only. Very noticeable just scrolling on an internet browser or within an app.

I think that, If I update my BIOS to V1.16 (latest version). Do you recommend this update ?

And If you do, How will I update BIOS for my laptop.

Thank you.

The last PHN16-71 bios version 1.16 "Optimizes settings for NVIDIA GPU" 2024/04/29 does fix gpu issues on this laptop. Also, and if you are using the Acer provided oem WD M.2 SSD drive, flash the latest firmware for that oem M.2 SSD drive to the available Acer provided firmware version v61507100, as the M.2 SSD could contribute to freezing of the laptop.

To update the bios you need to make sure that all software programs are terminated and not functioning in the background, that your laptop is on a reliable mains power and does not crash or its battery is not at low % charge and is susceptible to any BSODs blue screens crashes, as any bios update power interruptions in the middle of a bios update is in progress, will brick the bios program and your laptops will not boot and will need its bios to be reprogramed or the bios chip changed.

To do a successful bios flash follow the insyde bios instructions below:

Note: Allow the laptop to restart after the bios flash on its own and DO NOT try to restart the latop by pressing the POWER KEY!
