Hello Community,

I have purchased my Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54 around 1.5 years back in January 2022. It is a great and efficient machine and it hasn't given me any troubles until now. As of recently, I've been thinking of upgrading my laptop. Here are my laptop details:

Model Name: Predator Helios 300
Model Number: PH315-54
Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB Laptop GPU
Display: QHD 2560x1440 Refresh Rate of 165Hz
RAM: 16GB (2 x 8GB) SK Hynix DDR4 at 3200MHz [HMAA1GS6CJR6N-XN]
SSD: SAMSUNG NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 512GB R/W 6900MBps/5000MBps [PM9A1 MZVL2512HCJQ-00BT7]
HDD: Seagate Barracuda Pro Performance Internal Hard Drive SATA HDD 1TB 7200RPM 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 2.5-Inch [ST1000LM049-2GH172]

I want to upgrade my RAM, SSD and HDD. I have a sticker on my laptop body which says "Available Slots for 2x SSD + 1x HDD" but no such information regarding RAM Slots. Here is where my list of questions start:

1. What types of SSD Slots are available for upgrade, is it M.2 NVMe PCIe or M.2 SATA or full size SATA?
2. If it is full size SATA, is it different from the available HDD SATA slot or is it common?
3. How many RAM slots are available on my laptop for upgrade? (I have checked in Task Manager and CPU-Z and both state that my laptop has 8 RAM Slots out of which 2 are being used but I am not quite sure about this so am asking on this discussion)
4. Any suggestions/links on what products I should go for my upgrades?

Let me know if any input/information is required from my end.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

First I would like to know what troubles you started getting with laptop?. It's been 1.5YRS, IF laptop started lagging, freezing in games then it most likely due to thermal paste dried out, dust in fans and air vents.

However, Upgrading ram and ssd do futher iincrease laptop performance in every field if you are getting any issue or not. I am asking because if temperatures are high and you are looking for improve performance then issue will not be fix by Upgrade. Properly applying good quality thermal paste, cleaning fans and air vents will make your laptop better then now

    @GAMING6698 Thanks for your response.

As the environment around me is pretty dusty, I service my laptop every 10-12 months by cleaning the body, keys, touchpad, screen etc and blowing dust, cleaning vents, ducts and heatsinks and reapplication of thermal paste. So there isn't any issue I am facing in that regard.

I am thinking of upgrading as:

    1. My SSD is very small in terms of storage size so might as well put in a 1TB or 2TB SSD.
    2. If SSD is not an economical option, I might consider putting a 2TB HDD instead and shifting just my OS and boot operations on my SSD.
    2. I am not sure if the available RAM will be enough to support my expanded storage operations.

I am a design engineer with a substantial amount of SolidWorks and AutoCAD project files on my system. Furthermore, those files are considerably large in size as well. Deleting/Removing those project files and emptying my disk drives isn't an option for me. Considering these cases, I am thinking of upgrading so that I don't have to look into this for the next 2 years atleast.

    Kudus, very complete post.😉
What types of SSD Slots are available for upgrade, is it M.2 NVMe PCIe or M.2 SATA or full size SATA You have a 512GB M.2 NVMe Gen 4 SSD in your laptop that you can upgrade to 1TB, you can install a M.2 NVMe Gen 4 SSD in the second slot up to 1TB. Samsung 990 Evo is a reliable SSD that runs very cool. You can replace the HDD for a much faster Sata-3 2.5" SSD like the Samsung 870 Evo V-NAND 2TB
If it is full size SATA, is it different from the available HDD SATA slot or is it common
A 2.5" Sata-3 SSD will run at 560MB/s 100x the speed of an HDD and will last much longer (5 years factory warranty)
How many RAM slots are available on my laptop for upgrade? (I have checked in Task Manager and CPU-Z and both state that my laptop has 8 RAM Slots out of which 2 are being used but I am not quite sure about this so am asking on this discussion)
CPU-Z and Task Manager include all the terminals on the board for soldered RAM even when not used, only 2 removable RAM slots are used with 2 x 8GB modules, you can upgrade to 64GB DDR4-3200Mhz total RAM with 2x32GB maximum ($80) see the Crucial link below.
Any suggestions/links on what products I should go for my upgrades
Crucial/Micron for RAM and Samsung for SSDs.
