Does anyone know if Acer po5-650 will be releasing new BIOS for the Intel Microcode update?
Tinkerer
Hi all,
Has anyone heard anything about Acer releasing a bios update that updates the Intel Microcode for the motherboards in their Predator models (or all models)? I have a Predator Orion 5000 with the po5-650 motherboard, but the latest bios update is over 6 months old.
MSI and Asus have released the update, but Acer is not a motherboard reseller so I wonder if this will take an extended period of time.

Yes, the BIOS update for the PO3-655 titled “Support Intel IPU2024.1” is related to Intel’s microcode updates. Specifically, Intel Platform Update (IPU) 2024.1 includes microcode updates to address potential security vulnerabilities and stability issues in Intel processors1.
For example, recent updates have been crucial for fixing voltage-related instability issues in Intel’s 13th and 14th generation processors23. These updates are essential to ensure your system runs smoothly and securely.
The PO3-655 is the same spec desktop as the PO3-650, try the .exe bios executable file as if the bios is not applicable the bios will not flash, so flash the PO3-655 with this file: bios version: 1.03 “Support Intel IPU2024.1” dated: 2024/08/21 to fix the Intel microcode issue for your desktop. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

MSI and Asus have released BIOS updates with the Intel microcode update, but Acer is not a motherboard reseller so it may take them longer to provide the update.
While Acer has not released a BIOS update with the Intel microcode for the Predator Orion 5000 (PO5-650) yet, it's likely they will do so at some point. Keep checking the Acer support site for your model for any new BIOS versions.

I'm afraid this firmware upgrade R01-A4 is not that particular patch addressing the overvoltage issue in Intel CPUs 13th and 14th Gen. According to HWINFO64 this is 0x125 microcode revision which doesn't include the overvoltage patch yet. It is the later version 0x129 addressing this issue. I hope Acer engineers are aware of this Intel CPU fiasco and will deliver the 0x129 or later microcode patch soon.

All bios updates for the Predator Orion desktop like your PO5-655 model has clear and precise bios flash instructions in a PDF format document that is included in the bios Appendix folder, so use these instructions titled "UCP BIOS Update SOP for Windows v1.0" PDF guide," as we can't explain it to you in a more simpler way, if you don't understand these instructions then DO NOT attempt the bios update as you will brick your desktop, so be warned of that! Get either Acer in your country or a technician that has experience in updating bios files.
Before you flash the bios do this as if you do any of the below things you will brick your bios, and desktop will not start and the bios chip will have to be reprogrammed:
- Make sure that no software like anti virus or malware programs are running in the background.
- The desktop is fully powered and there is no instance of a power failure or a BSOD blue screen crash from your desktop having any faults.
- You do not disturb or reboot the desktop in the middle of the bios flash process, make sure you wait until the bios process update finishes completely and the desktop reboots from the bios software flash update only.
Follow this detailed bios flash guide below from the bios version 103 of the PO5-655 desktop which is the latest bios for your desktop:

Yes. Thanks for the reply. The confusion for me is the line 1.2. There no UCP folder. Also the way it's worded makes me think I have to copy the contents of the non existent UCP folder to a USB fob.

Use the R01-A4 Application (.exe) file within windows as that will flash your bios, and adhere to all that I've noted above before you flash the version R01-A4 bios:
