Acer Chromebook crashing and time always off by 5 -6 mins, is the RAM or CPU issue?

My Acer Chromebook is 4 months old and started crashing randomly. Now the time is off by 5-6 mins (slow) all the time. It's not a "timezone" issue as it's not off by 1 hour…just 5-6 mins consistently. Is this a ram issue? CPU issue?

It's likely that your Acer Chromebook is experiencing a hardware issue, possibly related to the CPU or RAM, causing the random crashes and time inaccuracy. A few things to try:

    • Hard reset your Chromebook by turning it off, pressing and holding the Refresh button, then tapping Power. This can fix screen issues.
    • Remove any Linux apps or extensions you've installed, as they can cause crashes.
    • Disable the Linux feature and Play Store apps entirely to isolate the issue.
    • If crashes persist after a factory reset, it's probably a hardware problem.
    • Use the Chromebook Diagnostics app to test the memory. If it fails, it could indicate faulty RAM.

If none of these steps resolve the crashes and time inaccuracy, visit nereast acer service centre , as it may require servicing under warranty. The consistent 5-6 minute time drift is an unusual symptom that points to a deeper hardware issue, likely with the CPU or system clock.

I think it unlikely to be memory or CPU. Most likely it's on the software side. There is something blocking the NTP synchronization of the clock, which is why it doesn't adjust to the right time. It might or might not be related to the crashes…
