The 990Pro definitely requires cooling as it gets very hot, dimensions of the 990Pro are 80.15 x 25 x 8.88mm (with heatsink), not sure but 9mm may touch the back of the laptop. Keeping your laptop as cool as possible is a major concern when gaming, that is why I recommended the 990 EVO, overheating affects the lifespan of any electronic component hence the heatsinks for "hot" SSDs.

The Predator Helios PH35-55 has the following 2x M.2 SSD interface slot specifications, the quickest read/write Gen 4x4 lane M.2 SSD drive that you can install into your PH315-55 laptop is the 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD its not the cheapest but its the best quality and the most reliable. If you want to have a look at a range of independently tested M.2 SSD 1TB, 2TB and 4TB drive have a look here SSD Benchmarks Hierarchy as this will give you a great indication of all the Gen 4x4 M.2 SSD drives available. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

These are the Acer listed service guide drives that they fit oem to these laptops so you have a choice of fitting the below drives also but they will be slower.

i notice that 990 pro does include a slim heatsink, which i don't think is many other SSD provides. is it require to have heatsink for SSD and do you happen to know the dimension of the SSD slot that this laptop model has so i can compare the size.

I recommend the 990 Evo that runs much cooler and does not require a heat sink, it is a bit slower, up to 5,000 MB/s and only available up to 2TB, 80 x 22 x 2.38mm.

my question, does the predator HELIOS 300 PH315-55 SSD slot's have enough room for a heatsink? does heatsink needed for the SSD for its longevity? i'm thinking of buying the 990 pro but if there is a room for heatsink, i can buy a more affordable one. I'm sorry if my question is unclear

No it does not, no M.2 drive that has a heatsink will fit a laptop as they are too thiick in size for the back lid to close on a laptop. The M.2 SSD drives with heatsinks are made for gaming desktops, btw Acer uses a FOIL CU W/ MYLAR,GRAPHITE SHEET for both the M.2 SSD drives and RAM modules like below that is from the latest PHN16-72 Predator Helis Neo laptop'

    M.2 SSD sheet

    RAM module sheet and pad
