Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 2024 laptop, code PHN16-72. I Cannot change Output color format.

I have an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 2024 laptop, code PHN16-72. I am using 2 separate LG monitors with code 24GQ50F-B (165HZ, Support RGB). I'm having a problem with the separate monitor. When setting up 165HZ via USB-C to DP 1.4 cable (Ugreen), only one of the two monitors can set the output color mode: RGB, the other monitor will default to YCbCr422. and cannot be changed. If you restart the computer, YCbCr422 color mode may randomly appear on screens that previously worked with RGB. The NVIDIA driver is the latest, tried a clean installation using NVIDIA's DDU or CleanupTool but the above annoying problem did not solve. When I installed the NVIDIA driver, both monitors used the RGB color space. However, if you restart the computer, the error continues to appear. Has anyone encountered a situation like mine and has a solution? P/S: If set to 144Hz, the error will not appear !

No problem, using a USB-C graphics adapter/hub to connect your 2 external monitors to a single USB-C DisplayPort may help ensure consistent color display settings across both monitors. This setup can simplify the management of display settings and reduce potential discrepancies between the monitors. I know that both USB-C ports support Display Port-Video out but try a hub like this: USB-C to Dual DisplayPort 4K MST Adapter | Eaton Also that keeps one USB-C port free for USB-C charging. 😉

Thanks for the quick response. As I understand it, this machine has 2 thunderbolt 4 ports. So if I use the other adapter it will only use 1 thunderbolt 4 port, is there any risk in bandwidth response if only using 1 port to supply 2 165Hz monitors and RGB color space? My monitor has Displayport 1.2 available

No, you won't lose bandwidth using my suggestion, the second USB-C port is so you can charge with a USB-C charger and use the other USB-C port as Display Port.

@Puraw Hi Sir,

While waiting for the docking to arrive, I am currently using a trick to force the screen to run at 165hz frequency and RGB color gamut by the following method:

Turn on the laptop, turn off Sleep mode
Wait for the computer to boot, then plug in each screen cable in order (Do not plug in the cable before starting the computer)

The above is just a trick, but I really want to find out the root cause. Can I just set up the system once and the laptop will remember it next time (Similar to desktop computers, just plug in 2 cables and you're done without having to do anything)? Because laptops are mobile devices, each setup like this is too complicated

Hi, the issue you are having is probably related to Modern Standby, the new sleep mode in Windows, you can disable that in the registry and revert to the old Sleep mode (Windows8,1) but I recommend using the DP adapter that you ordered or disconnect/connect the DP cables like you did. 😉

I also hope Acer listens to user opinions on this issue to come up with the best solution for this machine. I have used laptops since 2008, all of them are Acer, only Predator makes me spend a lot of time to find out how to fix the problem. After buying the machine for 2 months, it took me 1 month to find out the problem and how to fix it. Because I personally only want to use these 2 thunderbolt ports for display output only, currently having to equip an additional Dock makes my luggage when going to work quite cumbersome.

I agree, but Windows and Intel (TBT) are constantly implementing changes/upgrades, and it takes time/effort for vendors to keep up, same with Asus, that 2nd TBT port is already a big improvement over the earlier Acer models. I am one of the lucky ones with my Asus OLED and Swift X that both have 2 TBT ports, never have issues with Power, batteries or waking from Modern Standby but I don't use external monitors.

Actually, we are talking about errors that occur here, does Acer know about it? Only when using the external monitor function do we see dozens of problems that are not there. Currently, my device only uses Nvidia's discrete card, I have turned off the Intel UHD card to stabilize the graphics output. There is one stupid thing about this use, when booting into the BIOS screen, the graphics interface lags like a 98s machine haha

@Puraw Hello, EATON replied to me today. Their dock only supports up to 60Hz. That's sad, and they don't have any other products that support 165Hz, RGB either.

After struggling with this computer for a while I was able to solve the problem of using 2 separate monitors via Thunderbolt port. Today I decided to buy 2 new monitors with the following specifications: 1920x1080 180Hz/Displayport 1.4/ Gsync Support. When I plugged these 2 monitors into the computer all the parameters worked as required: 1920x1080 180Hz, RGB Color Format and did not generate any of the strange errors that I described from the beginning. It seems that the Displayport 1.2 port and AMD Freesync on the old monitor are causing trouble for this Predator causing display errors. I am sharing the solution again so that those of you who intend to use 2 separate monitors can invest in buying the right monitor to achieve efficiency.
