Hi, I just bought an ACER V16 laptop off of amazon a few days ago and I'm having a bit of a problem. As the title says, whenever I put it to sleep, the laptop turns back on for 5 seconds or so, and then goes back to sleep mode again. This happens every 20 seconds or so when it's in sleep mode.

Now, I've been trying so many different solutions to see if anything can fix it. I tried disabling wake timers under advanced power options, and I also disabled the 'wake on magic packet' setting for my wi-fi network adapter in device manager. And now upon restarting the laptop, it no longer even goes into sleep mode. The screen just goes black but the laptop is still running. Also, the fans on the laptop are much louder now, whereas before they were almost dead silent.

I did try updating the bios to the latest version on the drivers and downloads page, as well as updating/reinstalling my graphics driver but nothing changed. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped as to what to do now.

What do you mean by: "sleep" there is a suspend mode and turn off the screen option. Microsoft recommends disabling Hibernate and fast Startup in "Change what closing the lid does" and in "Change settings currently unavailable" and also to reset the power plan to factory default in "Edit Power Plan", leave the adapter/USB-charger connected 24/7 and the battery fully charged. Check in Advanced power plan setting if "USB selective suspend" is showing, I would turn that off. Reset BIOS to factory default with F9 in BIOS and save changes on exit BIOS.

Hi Puraw, I've just done what you mentioned and it looks like it can go into sleep mode again. But sadly it keeps repeatedly turning the laptop on and off during sleep like it did before. I can tell because the blue light on the right side of the laptop keeps turning on and off and the fans speed up and stop.

By sleep mode I mean when you click on start and then the power icon, and then select sleep.

The power LED should be slowly flashing amber when in S3 "Sleep" mode, if not S3 has been disabled by the new Modern Standby protocol in Windows11 23H2 or Acer BIOS removed the S3 entries from ACPI tables.

Check if your BIOS version is up to date and Windows11 version is 23H2 22631.3880, update those first and wait for a BIOS update that will fix the S3 issue. I always press the power button briefly to suspend my laptops and close the lid then wake the system by pressing any key and never have issues (2023 Acer Swift X and Asus Oled laptops)

Morning, yes I just check my bios and it's version 1.07, the same as the latest bios on the acer drivers page. And windows 11 is 23H2 22631.3880.

Should I just avoid using the sleep command and use 'Hibernate' instead until a new bios version is available? I hope it's not a hardware issue.

Just a quick update. I went into bios settings on startup just to see if I could see if the S3 setting was disabled. I couldn't see any option for this, so I just exited and and started the laptop up as normal. Now the fan speeds are very loud again, and it won't even go to sleep mode. Surely this must be some hardware problem because I haven't changed anything.

So I did a clean reinstall of windows as advised by an acer agent, as they said all troubleshooting options had been exhausted. It seems like the fans are almost silent like they were before thankfully, but the same problem with the laptop turning on and off in sleep mode is still there! I think I might have to return the laptop.
