Finger scanner for Aspire A715-72G running Windows 11 malfunction

Hi there!

The fingerprint scanner for my Aspire A715-72G is malfunctioning for some time now.

My Acer is running Windows 11. When checking the driver, Microsoft tells me it is ‘the best’ available, but also that there might be a better one at the manufacturer site!

I looked for it, and arrived at a support page (see below) displaying drivers for Windows 10 only!

I wonder where ACER keeps the updated drivers.

Could someone help?

Many thanks in advance!

Luis

Thoroughly clean the fingerprint sensor with a wet wipe and then uninstall ELAN Fingerprint sensor in Biometric devices. Either just reboot or click on this link to download the driver:https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Fingerprint/Fingerprint_ELANTECH_3.6.1.1101_W10x64_A.zip?acerid=636755097658560161&Step1=&Step2=&Step3=ASPIRE%20A715-72G&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6
Also check Windows11 Sign-in Fingerprint recognition Hello if that is setup properly, redo the scanning procedure.

    Hi Puraw!

Thanks so much for your reply. Unfortunately your solution didn't work for me. First, I cleaned the sensor as you indicated, uninstalled it from Biometric devices and rebooted. Didn't work. A second time, I downloaded the driver (which is the same I had already discovered -for Windows 10, and from 2017-) and (re)installed it. Alas, to no avail. When checking again Biometric devices, Windows keeps telling me that the driver is the best.

When checking Device Manager > Biometric devices > ELAN WBF … > Properties > Events, I just saw the following 'Information': Device USB\VID_04F3&PID_0C03\5&eca343a&0&8 requires further installation. This Information is below the window listing a series of Events, all or most generated by me, where the following two descriptions appear multiple times: "Device configured (oem11.inf)" and "Device started (WUDFRd)". The last two events logged are from today, and are the two just mentioned and in the same order.

If the information above could enable you to further help me, that would be great. Otherwise, I will forget about the finger recognisition feature.

    Many thanks anyhow :).
