My laptop model is Acer Nitro 5 An517-54

I bought a Crucial T500 1TB ssd nvme that I want to perform a firmware update, but the Crucial app doesn't recognize my SSD.

My research shown that I need to uninstall Intel RST VMD controller to work and it seems that I can't do that.

Another thinks that I've tried: changing the bootmode to Legacy (which I can't because it is greyed out, and I tried to set a supervisorpassword and disabling secure boot)

I presume that this 1TB Crucial T500 M.2 SSD drive that is a Gen 4x4 type M.2 SSD, you are adding into the AN517-54 laptops SSD 2 slave drive and your laptop the AN517-54 has the RTX3060 or the RTX3070 Max-Q type gpu’s as in these AN517-54 laptop models both SSD 1 and SSD 2 are a Gen 4x4 type M.2 slot, if your AN517-54 has any other gpu’s models fitted then its SSD 1 is a Gen 4x4 M.2 slot and its SSD 2 is a Gen 3x4 M.2 slot speed and the Crucial T500 M.2 Gen 4x4 is an overkill and will work at 50% of its speeds, so be aware of this factor.

Adding an unformatted M.2 SSD drive out of the box to your AN517-54 laptop SSD 2 slave drives slot you need to look if the drive appears in Disk Management as by installing an M.2 SSD it appears as an uninitialized drive and it needs to be initialized and given a drive letter and then the M.2 SSD drive will be shown in windows File Explorer and the Crucial app. Have you done all this, as you need to this.

With disabling the Intel RST VMD in BIOS, this setting by default is [Enabled], so you don't need to do anything, but if you want to disable it, go to BIOS > Main > VDM Controller and then do the below, good luck and hope this helps you out.

    • This item default should be hidden.

Only visible after user presses Ctrl+S in this page.

    • The default value is [Enabled].
