Hi everybody,

since I bought my Acer Aspire 7 3750 h I got detected 5.94 GB of RAM instead of the standard 8 GB… I always told myself "It's not an hardware problem, It's windows that sucks"… some days ago I switched to Manjaro and the RAM detected is now 5.72 GB!!! Could it be possible that a RAM stick has been damaged for all this time and never worked?

If in System Info you have 8GB ram then your laptop has 8GB total ram and the rest is usable ram that is left over from the 8GB. Have a look at Task Manager > Performance > Memory as that tell you what the laptop uses from its 8GB total ram that is installed into your laptop and what is left over for usable ram which in one instance it was 5,72 GB but this number varies on what your laptop uses for its memory, that is why you have 5.94 then 5.72 etc etc

Where are you getting the 5.94 and 5.72 ram numbers from? As the Installed Physical Memory (RAM) is clearly shown in System Information part in windows OS. Look at that ram number as that is what your installed ram is.

In Windows I went on system information, as you told and there was the writing: "8 GB of RAM, 5.94 usable", on Gnu/Linux to check the RAM I use fastfetch or also the command "free -m" that tell Just 5,72 GB... How can a laptop with 8 GB of RAM make available less than 6 GB?
