Predator Orion 5000 P05-640 Turns on and fans and lights are on but no display

Yesterday I tried to install a new cpu fan but with no luck. I put all the cables and screws back and placed the original cpu fan back in place with some new thermal paste. Now I turn the pc on and, while all the lights and fans are on, there is no display to the monitor.

What I have tried

1. Checking all of the cables to make sure they are not loose (both in and out of the case)
2. Reseating the ram
3. Booting up with only one stick of ram in order to see if one of them is damaged
4. Reseating the gpu

Has anyone had this before and know how to fix it?

Have you properly made sure that the GPU card is inserted into the PCIE16Х_1 slot at #22 correctly in the diagram below and you have done the following correctly:

• Inserted the Graphics board into the PCIe x16 slot and press it down until it latches into place.
• Secured the Graphic board with the screws provided.
• Connected the power cables to the Graphics board on top.

Check all the connections on the mainboard also, below is the PO5-640s mainboard and all its mainboard placement detailed, so check all the connections, as unplugging and then replunging the cpu fan should not make your gpu not work. Good luck.

hey,

thanks for your response. i believe the GPU is seated and plugged in correctly. When I reseated it I attached it by pressing it on until the latch clicked. I also screwed it back in how it was before. If it is not seated correctly, how can I tell?

I also can’t see any loose cables or anything missing. Here is the inside of the case. It’s a long shot, does anything look out of place? The cables for the cpu fan aren’t as neat because I had to detached them from the back panel to get the fan off. Otherwise I believe everything is the same.

Also - I’ve noticed that my pc turns on as soon as I plug the power cable in regardless of whether or not I press the button or whether the power is turned on at the wall. This doesn’t seem right to me. Could the PSU be causing this issue?

Try these troubleshooting steps and see if the desktop resets:

1. Check the Video Cable: Ensure that the video cable connecting your PC to the monitor is securely plugged in at both ends.
2. Reset the BIOS: Disconnect the power cord, remove the BIOS battery and RAM, wait for about 15 minutes, then reinstall them and reboot your PC1.
3. Clean or Replace the RAM: If the PC is second-hand, try cleaning the RAM with a soft cloth or consider replacing it1.
4. Replace the CMOS Battery: Use a high-quality original battery from brands like SONY or PANASONIC1.
5. Hard Reset: Dismantle all components from the motherboard, including the processor and jumpers, wait for 15 minutes, and then reassemble. Make sure to use an anti-static wrist strap and mat during this process1.
6. Monitor Check: Test with a different monitor to rule out any issues with the monitor itself.

See if the above will reset the desktop and make it work, if not then you must have shorted a circuit on the board around the cpu if you didn't wear a static wrist band that could have caused this problem and you need to take your desktop to a technician. Good luck.

The GPU looks to be correctly seated from those pictures. Which slots are the memory cards in?

@billsey if counting from the left, they are in 2 and 4. I had not seen this diagram before, is it indicating that the only way to have 64GB is 4x16GB? My sticks are both 32GB. I would be confused if that was causing the issue though since it was fine for quite some time before I tried to change the fan

If the ram worked before with 2x 32GB modules than as they say "if it aint broke don't fix it" as Crucial Ram do also recommend 32GB modules to be fitted to this desktop to work, you can do their System Scan but here is one of their system scans for the Acer Predator Orion 5000 PO5-640 RAM & SSD Upgrades where you can see all the ram modules compatible with your desktop.

As I've told you above, your problem could be with a mainboard chip that you must have shorted electrostatically or it just shorted (as it can happen) and its affected your mainboard and it need to get checked out by an experienced technician. as there are allot of idiosyncrasies that can affect a mainboard with its graphics not showing and it can be tricky. You can try the Acer recommended ram DIMM1 to 4 stacking, but you will need to buy all new ram @ 4x 16GB modules as its listed above. Good luck.
