    Hi,

You can upgrade the storage up to 1TB in each slot to make a total of 2TB storage, you can also upgrade memory up to 32GB(2x16GB) with DDR4 3200MHz modules.

This is the Acer service guide specification for the Nitro AN517-55 laptop DDR4 and DDR5 ram specifications and the M.2 SSD drive suitable for this laptop. The hard drive capacity size is governed only by the format that the hard drive is formatted with, if its formatted with MBR/Legacy format then the max drive size should be 2TB if its formatted with the GUID (GPT) format then the max limit of the drive size is 8 petabytes (1 petabyte = 1000 TB) so its virtually limitless.

The AN517-55 laptop M.2 SSD drive specs are as follows, its SSD1 boot drive M.2 slot is a PCIe4x4 and its SSD2 slave drive M.2 slot is a PCIe4x4. Have a look at the SSD Benchmarks Hierarchy 2024 as a guide to the quickest 1Tb / 2TB and 4TB M.2 SSD drives that have been tested and chose the appropriate one that you require. Good luck and hope this helps you out also.

According to CPU manufacturer, this CPU can handle with 192GB RAM, DDR4-3200mhz. There's no reachable limit to the storage, but your SSD entrances are PCIe Gen4x4 (up to 7000mb/s reading).

Yes but the 192GB DDR4 RAM is only workable in desktops and if there is an appropriate bios that will allow that size, Acer laptops DO NOT operate at 192GB DDR4 RAM as they don’t have a bios that will allow the AN517-55 laptop mainboard to operate with 192GB DDR4 RAM (you can't buy 96GB DDR4 RAM modules for a 2x RAM slot laptop) but the DDR4 laptop will work on 64GB (2x 32GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22) or the AN517-55 DDR5 version will work at 92GB in its 2x RAM slots (Note: with the DDR5 I’m not 100% sure so please check this max 92GB figure up with Acer if you have this model) these RAM capacities are all with the last dated 2024/03/26 bios version 2.13.

Yes , the AN517-55 laptop has 2x M.2 SSD drive slots of the Gen 4x4 M.2 SSD drive, but in real benchmarking testes it reaches about max 6900MB/s sequential read speeds only and not for write speeds, so be aware of that.

@StevenGen, thank you so much for all your corrections, and they are all correct. However, let me clarify further what I meant in the information. It may be that my comment was too short to express myself correctly.

Here's a recent discovery I made: Acer Nitro models, for example, with 10th or 11th generation Core i5 or i7 processors have a maximum RAM capacity of generally 32GB (2x16GB), according to Acer itself. However, there are many reports of successful upgrades, with memory amounts ranging from 64GB to 128GB (and without modifications in the BIOS).

The reason for this is that, although there are the BIOS and motherboard limitations you mentioned, the actual limits of RAM are closer to what is provided by the processor manufacturer than by notebook manufacturers in general (this is not just true for Acer).

I believe the same goes for Acer Predator notebooks. And yes, it is a fact that the 192GB RAM limit is not achievable in notebooks, given the absence of 96GB RAM SODIMM chips on the market. All I wanted to say is that the real limit for RAM upgrades is that of the processor, and not that provided by the notebook manufacturer.

Here are some of the sucessful upgrades beyond the limit provided by Acer:

Yes you are correct theoretically but not practically as saying that "the real limit for RAM upgrades is that of the processor, and not that provided by the notebook manufacturer” is correct, but as that mainly applies to allot of the more recent DDR4 laptops that the manufacturer quotes a max 32GB RAM capacity when and in fact it works 100% with 64GB ram capacities perfectly.

That is not the case in all laptops as the ram capacity in some of these cases is also restricted by the manufacturer with their mainboard design that is governed by its bios, this is mainly applicable to the AMD Ryzen cpu’s and a few Intel cpu’s also, so you can’t generalize and expect all mainboards with a certain cpu to be fully compatible to a higher quoted ram than what the manufacturer quotes as its max ram capacity. Best is to consult the manufacturers tech support or a specialist ram manufacturer like Crucial ram who can advise and have their own system scans for ram if you intend upgrading the ram beyond the manufactures suggest capacity.
