I recommend trading in your old laptop and migrating to a newer model laptop, Upgrading RAM with larger modules replacing HDD with SSD and adding NVMe SSDs will cost a lot while the laptop performance/speed will always be limited by the older RAM controller, outdated CPU/GPU and slow Gen3 PCIe SSD slots (and old very dim screen) 2015 laptop technology evolved a lot with standard 3K 350 nits full HD screens, and Windows10 will be phased out next year. You can get a good gaming rig already for under $800 like the 2021 Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-53E5 or the 2022 Asus TUF A15.

Windows update should have been handling almost all the needed updates for you. No need for more unless you are having a specific problem. As suggested though, at 8 years old you might be better served with a newer model.
