When I plug in my headset to the 3.5mm jack, the laptop does not use my headset mic (PH315-53)

Hello. When I plug in my headset (Skullcandy Hesh 2) to the 3.5mm jack, the laptop does not use my headset mic. I found out it uses the internal, [Content Removed], camera mic, which is something I don't understand. Yes, I have picked the option "Headset" when it asks which device you plugged in. Yes, I have reinstalled my audio driver and, as a matter of fact, multiple times too. Yes, it is not the headset's problem as it works perfectly fine on other laptops. Yes, I made sure it was plugged in correctly. Everything I find on the internet does not work for me :(

So I decided to buy an USB to 3.5mm adapter. I was happy when I finally heard my headset's mic.

Then, 3 days ago, my dog chewed on it and the USB ceased to work... now I am obligated to use the standard jack. Here's the interesting part: I thought the mic wouldn't work when I plugged it in, but to my surprise, it did. Everything was coming from my mic, not the laptop's. I believe it kinda fixed itself. But the next day, it went back to what it did before. The bug came back. Then I discovered that when I pick "Mic in" in the popup, it does use my headset's mic, which is not okay because the audio comes from the speakers and I'd like it to go to my headset.

TLDR; the laptop only recognizes the headset's mic if I pick "Mic in" but it doesn't when I choose "Headset". The Headset option sometimes works only for a limited amount of time.

(sorry for my English)

You are already using your headset mic. It is not a separate item.

Plug in your headset mic, the computer will prompt you "which device did you plug in", select "headset". That's it. If not prompt, then go to realtek audio console app to select "headset".

Lightly tab your headset mic (and make sure that your headset's mic mute button is not enabled), the microphone array signal meter will jump, thus verifying that you are using the headset mic.

If you have muffled sound when using your headset mic and mixing with other sound (i.e. the other sound gets cancelled out or muffled), then you have to turn off the AI noise cancellation software in acer purified voice app OR some other AI noise cancellation app.

@joe9844 Dude my bad but it's like you didn't even read what I wrote. I said that I've already selected the "headset" option and that it doesn't do anything. The headset's mic is only used when I pick "Mic In" not "headset". When I pick the headset option, I don't hear anything (other than brrrrrrrrrrrrr), but I'm sure the laptop's mic is being used, as when I tap it, the signal meter jumps.

Also, I do not have an AI noise cancellation software. I do have Peace Equalizer for my microphone, but I doubt that would be the problem.

What did you tap? Did you tap the laptop's webcam where the laptop's internal mic is or did you tab the headset mic?

When you select "headset" and you tap the headset mic and the microphone array signal meter jumps then you are using the headset mic.

If it is a detechable cable, check your cables on both sides, not just the side that goes into the computer.

@Joe9844 I tapped the laptop's webcam. The meter jumps. It does not when I tap the headset's mic.

I'm telling you man, the "headset" option doesn't do anything 😔

Uninstall both Realtek Audio driver and the Realtek Audio Console. Reinstall them by getting those drivers on the support site: https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/product-support/PH315-53

Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

It turned out to be a problem with the laptop's jack itself… for some reason, if I hold the 3.5mm plug upright, the headset mic gets used but if I let it flop I hear statics… also this was after I did a clean install of my pc.

So guys, if nothing works for yall, buy a USB or do a clean install of ur computer 😀👍️
