Hi, I just got my new Acer Nitro 5 (2021) and everything is working fine so far except for it not being able to detect my headset microphone. The headset audio comes through fine but the built-in microphone is not being detected, I have tried almost everything. I have tried changing the Realtek setting from headphone to headset with no results, I have tried reinstalling and updating drivers, I have even reinstalled Windows 10 to no avail, I am stumped and considering returning this thing if I can't figure this out. The headset I am trying to use is called the "Corsair HS60 Pro" and it works fine on my other laptop and with my Xbox, please help me figure this out because I really like this laptop.

Ok so, Joe was right, whenever my headset is plugged in, it is replacing the microphone on the laptop with the microphone on my headset but I can return the setting to normal once I disconnect my headset, thanks for all the help guys, I think I have this sorted out for now, I just wish Acer and Realtek could make this more clear.

when its set to headset, if you head to sounds -> input, does it show in there? (it may be under the same mic input as the laptop so its worrth tapping the  mic to see if the input levels jump)

I tried that but it only picked up audio from the laptop microphone array.

You are already using your headset mic as long as you selected "headset" in Realtek Audio Console.

Headset mic is not a separate item, it is combined with microphone arrary.

Lightly tap your headset mic, the signal meter will jump.

Hmm  blooming audio consoles! Which one do you have, is it the realtek one? Mind if a grab a screenshot of it? (These issues can be a pain in the rear as each lappy has a differnt console layout)

Im wondering if there is a way to force the jack into headset mode through the console, usualy its in the options somewhere to force it to a certain mode

    The explanation is super simple.

Pricing is super competitive. A 2017 laptop may have DTS. A 2018 model may have Dolby. A 2019 model may have Waves. Whoever submits the lowest price in that year, Acer is going to put that in your laptop for that year.

In these "premium audio" computer models, Acer doesn't want end-users to accidentally ruin their sound --- by enabling the EQ twice. Once in the Realtek Audio Console and the 2nd one in the DTS/Dolby/Nahimic/Waves/IcePower app.

So if your computer comes with DTS like the OP. It comes with DTS app. The DTS app has its own EQ. End-user is going to enable the EQ in the DTS app. Then 3 months later, end-user forgot about it, so they went and enable the EQ in the Realtek Audio Console. The end result --- the sound is ruined because you enable 2 EQ at the same time. Therefore the only possible way to avoid that is to delete the EQ in the Realtek Audio Console.

Sometimes, the OEM computer manufacturer is cheap and don't pay for the full feature app. Just turning on TrueHarmony or turning on Dolby. But the argument still stands --- if you enable Dolby or TrueHarmony, you are using their "smart" preset to alter the sound already. You turning on the 10 band EQ with the Realtek Audio Console would also ruin your sound. Again the only possible way to avoid this is to delete the EQ in the Realtek Audio Console.

Laptops come with little dinky speakers that Acer has to put TrueHarmony on even the cheapest laptops so that you have acceptable sound.

So the only time you will ever see the basic "full feature" Realtek Audio Console is if you have a basic Acer desktop computer (desktops don't come with TrueHarmony).

It's very interesting how acer support tries to resolve this problem with microphone not working to a single user when they know it's not possible to reslove the issue because hardware isn't built to support microphone(3.5mm audio jack). You literally can't connect a microphone to the laptop due to 3.5mm jack not having a microphone "reader", it doesn't even work when you try to connect only the mic with splitter. It's sad that they don't advertise this ANYWHERE because they would lose buyers = money. I know the acer support doesn't have anything to do with company's choice of manufacturing their laptops but it's sad and for everyone trying to find solution for this issue, there is no solution. You can buy a few adapters and lose 70% of headpones quality (both sound and microphone) and use it like this or you can buy headphones with USB A connetor and that's going to work perfectly fine. And I may or may not get a respone from support team, but please don't even try to help me because you know nothing solves the problem.
And again I did EVERYTHING you can to try and fix it but there's no way…on newer machines all sound drivers are perfectly good and updated you can try to update the drivers but you'll achieve nothing.

Note: I'm from Europe. Laptops that have been made somwhere else may work fine but this is the case for us here.
