I have a acer aspire 4741z that when you install graphics drivers on it will do one of 2 things:

  1. Show a blank screen (no backlight)
  2. Show a blank screen (backlight on)

I would like to know what causes this as the 2 seperate versions of Intel HD Graphics drivers i can only access causes these.

HELP NEEDED!

This is a 1012 Windows7 laptop that is no longer supported by Acer and Microsoft, if you download GPU drivers from some obscure website you will brick your laptop. You have to continue working with your original W7 drivers if you cannot restore your Windows7 OS with the repair DVD anymore consider installing Linux OS and/or migrating to a new Windows11 laptop, for sale on the internet from $300 up.

I understand that this laptop is discontinued and unsupported anymore,

It is that windows 10 is very unstable (so is linux in general) on the laptop, and also laptops nowadays are like what, 700$? I do not have that kind of money, and i figured this laptop could be a project laptop (by project laptop i mean a laptop for experimenting new things before doing them on my actual daily, an Asus).

I understand that obscure websites WILL and CAN brick my laptop.

The main focus on this Acer community discussion was that is it possible to see why the graphics drivers were causing these.

Hell even i struggle with drivers too, since the Intel HD graphics drivers for the CPU i have (Intel Core i5 m560) are pretty hard to find.

You are "pushing the envelope" running Windows10 on your W7 laptop, The $300 I mentioned is for this 15" W11 laptop:
https://www.amazon.com/A315-24P-R7VH-Display-Quad-Core-Processor-Graphics/dp/B0BS4BP8FB?th=1 No need to spend $700. Asus is far more expensive; I have one too.

Which OS are you running on it? What GPU drivers are you trying to install? There were multiple versions of the Aspire 4741Z shipped, with different GPUs to give the VGA to drive the display and the external port. How much memory is installed, and what speed? IIRC it supports up to 4GB sticks, DDR3 1066 or 1333. With a first gen i3 or i5 and 4GB or 8GB of memory it ought to run Windows 10, albeit slowly.

I am trying to run windows 7 on it. The GPU drivers are Intel HD Graphics drivers for an i5 M560 since i swapped the CPU on mine. Memory seems to be DDR3 1333? It does run windows 10 only a slight bit smooth, but last time i tried that it was a bluescreen disaster and it bluescreens (back then) like 1 time per like 20 minutes. Ubuntu on the other hand worked, then it did not. (back in 2022 it still was fine) Normal boot on ubuntu 22.04 now (live boot) is just pure black while safe graphics just fails to turns off the graphics turbo and just shows a black screen, and since i do not have the time for downloading another LTS Ubuntu ISO (they are like 4GB for 1, and i have 30MBPS internet) i just kinda gived up on Ubuntu because if it didn't work, neither probably with Ubuntu Unity.
