Why would the Crucial M500 not be compatible? with P449 G3 M
I have NVME installed already. Want to add 2.5" SSD in empty HDD compartment. I like the Crucial M500 but according to Crucial site, they have no compatible 2.5" SSD for this computer. Why would the Crucial M500 not be compatible? It has a SATA 3 connection. The site says the M500 is compatible with the P449 G2. What's the difference between the G2 and my G3 related to this incompatibility?

Have a look at this older community thread as it covers the addition of a 2.5" drive. Good luck.

The G3 model does not come with a 2.5" Sata-3 bay for HDD/SSD. the PCIe M.2 Sata-3 slot you mention is for a Sata-3 SSD. The G2 model has a 2.5" Sata-3 bay for HDD/SSD. This site states that there is an interface for a 2.5" Sata-3 cable for the G3 model but you need to get a bracket and flat ribbon cable, I was unable to confirm this 2.5" Sata interface anywhere else: https://drivesolutions.com/acer-travelmate-p4-p449-g3-m-laptop-hard-drive-and-solid-state-drive-upgrades-and-replacements.html

Thx for the fast reply. However, I believe you may be mistaken. As per your reference, the drive soultion site states "The Acer TravelMate P4 P449-G3-M Laptop Supports Single and Dual Drive Configurations. (One 2.5" Solid State Drive or Hard Drive and/or One M.2 NGFF (2280) Solid State Drive) Note: If the 2.5" Drive was not installed from Acer, you will need the 2.5" Drive bracket and cable for installation. (The M.2 slot supports SATA and PCIe NVMe Solid State Drives)". This is exactly what I have. I only have a M.2 drive installed. Yes, the chewing gum shaped SSD stick. There is also a compartment on the underside of the computer that I have opened and it is indeed a compartment for an additional 2.5" HDD/SSD. I refer you to this teardown reference in which shows a picture of the underside clearly showing the additional 2.5" HDD/SSD compartment. This is exactly same as mine. As stated, I have physically removed the one screw and opened the compartment. It is empty as the computer did not come with a 2.5"HDD or SSD, connection cable (SATA) or bracket, which is ok as I can purchase these. https://laptopmedia.com/highlights/acer-travelmate-p4-tmp449-disassembly-internal-photos-and-upgrade-options/So, there is no question that my computer has options for both a 2.5" SSD and also a M.2 SSD connection. The latter is only accesible by completely removing the underside. Obviously, since there is no 2.5" SSD or HDD installed, the storage it is using is the PCIe M.2 Sata-3 slot. So, my question again is: Is the 2.5" Crucial M500 compatible? If not, for whatever reason, why not?. Is there a compatible 2.5" SSD?

Installed the Crucial 2.5" SSD and set it up for backup and data. I will continue to use the PCIe NVMe SSD for the Linux OS and boot. Happy that the dual drive system works as intended.
Thanks to all you guys for your input
