Aspire 5 black screen / freezing / confused

I went to turn my laptop on and it was black screen cycling the fan on/off in 1 second intervals. I tried hard power down and turn on but same thing.

i opened it up and unplugged the battery. replugged, it turned on and worked for a minute or two, then froze. reboot to black screen fan cycle. so i unplug battery, this time disconnect hard drive. boot up fine, then freeze. cleaned fan/coolant system, no change. I let it rest overnight and now no matter what I do, it’s just black screen and fan cycle. I have tried replacing the RAM, tried it with battery only, tried it with plug and no battery, I tried holding power button down for a minute with no power source, i’m not sure what else to do. now I just get black screen and fan cycling at 1 second intervals. no acer logo, etc. any suggestions?

    Reset the CMOS:
Open the back of the laptop and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard. Locate the CMOS module near the SSD (with 2 twisted wires Red and Black) and remove the coin battery. Shorten the +/- contacts (terminals) inside the CMOS capsule for 2 seconds with a bended paperclip and put the coin battery back with the + sign facing up, close the CMOS capsule. Next, press the Power Button on the keyboard for 10-15 seconds after that reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard. Close the laptop, plug-in the adapter and try to boot.

ok, tried all that, several times, but nothing changed except maybe a couple new sounds from inside. boot up type sounds, but nothing ever happened.

What is your Aspire 5 laptops model number, as by the symptoms and fixes that you have done it seems that you have a shorted EC chip or at worse a shorted chipset chip (which will need a new mainboard) as a chipset chip is very hard to get as spare parts and in most cases they are faulty even if you can buy one, especially from Ali Express, so be warned. Take your Aspire 5 to an experienced technician that can diagnose precisely what is wrong with your laptop and that has the ability to replace and program an EC chip, as that is your only way of fixing this laptop, otherwise buy a new mainboard, Good luck.

    it’s an A514-54-501Z,

and ****, I was afraid of that. doubt I can afford a new one rn as having it down has severely impacted my work / income. I guess it’s back to the old HP pavilion. it’s like 10 years old, the A Key doesn’t work, and it’s big and clunky, but at least it still works.

how hard is it to program an EC chip?
