I have the 256GB SSD M.2 from factory that my computer has ran great on for years. I noticed when replacing my battery that this computer had nothing in the 2.5" HDD spot. I would like to take advantage of that space and add a 1tb SSD there. When I do that will it default to boot from that new drive or will it just recognize the new hard drive as new storage and boot normally from the m.2 drive??

will I need to change my boot order when installed?

Is there anything I should know before I do this?

Also shoutout to brummyfan2 for answering sooo many questions I looked up prior to getting here. I didnt find any asking about this specific scenario and none of the youtube videos had this same build.

Thank you

The notebook offers a 2.5-inch HDD: https://laptopmedia.com/highlights/inside-acer-aspire-f-15-f5-573g-disassembly-internal-photos-and-upgrade-optionss/ You need a bracket and Sata-3 cable if not provided. Bios will boot from the drive with the bootloader, if you have only data on the 2.5" SSD it will not detect that as your boot drive. The 2.5" Sata-3 Samsung 870 EVO V_NAND 1TB is a very fast and reliable SSD.

Puraw that did not really answer my question, I am attaching a picture to better describe my question and show how it has evolved.

So my computer Aspire F15 F5-573G-74NG was only made with a 256 GB SSD in the "F" location above. The "C" location was from factory with nothing in it. Previously I was asking if I add a 1tb drive to the "C" location if I would have to change the boot order of my computer.

I hoped that it would just default boot from the 256 GB SSD and it did. It seemed to boot slightly slower possibly checking the "C" location first to see if there was anything there? Regardless my issue now is that even though I added the 1TB SSD drive (brand new from Crucial) in the "C" location my computer does not seem to recognize it at all. I need to use it as additional storage space, nothing more or less.

How do I get my computer to recognize it is there?

Should I simply unplug it and plug it back in? What am I missing here?

The people on forums and youtube upgrading location "C" from HDD to SSD did not have this issue. But again sadly I have not found much on my exact aspire f15 build.

    Thank you for the help.
