Received "Secure Boot Fail" message, first time ever. Accessed BIOS, took web-proffered advice to disable Secure Boot, saved changes, exited, and machine booted. Now…I have a 2-part question:

  1. I've read more than a few posts advising disabling Secure Boot permanently, to work around the problem; is this wise? What I do on my machine is not mission-critical to national defense, for example, but I have no desire to expose my laptop to mischief.
  2. Along with this, nobody seems to care about figuring out why this happened to begin with. I have read there are many possible causes, and also that tracking the reason down is not easy. But is this not important? AFAIK, I could be infected already. I think it possible that is the reason for the failure, although it is true I have noticed nothing unusual. Why ppl do not care about this possibility I do not understand.

TIA
