I have a Acer Nitro N50-640 and the problem is that it will lock up or freeze occasionally, no distinct pattern at any time or not in some time. I have done a factory reset and still have the same issue, What is the problem…is it software or hardware?

When your desktop freezes or locks up, you need to troubleshoot the issue step by step:

    1. Give It Some Time: Sometimes a computer may appear frozen, but it’s actually busy processing a complex task. Wait a few minutes to see if it unfreezes on its own.
    2. Check for Deadlock:
      • Press the Caps Lock key on your keyboard. Observe if the Caps Lock LED turns on and off. If nothing happens, the computer is deadlocked, and you’ll need to reboot it.
      • If Caps Lock works, proceed to the next step.
    3. End Task for Unresponsive Programs:
      • Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to open the Task Manager.
      • If the Task Manager opens, highlight the program that’s not responding and choose End Task. This should unfreeze the computer.
      • Note that it might take a few seconds for the unresponsive program to terminate after selecting End Task.
    4. Reboot the Computer:
      • If none of the above steps helped, you’ll need to reboot the computer.
      • Press and hold down the power button until the computer turns off.
      • Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on and let it start normally.
      • During startup, you may see a screen asking if you want to start in Safe Mode or Start Windows Normally. Choose the latter and check if Windows starts without errors.
    5. Save Your Work Regularly:
      • To prevent data loss during freezes, save your work frequently.
      • Some programs have an autosave feature, which can help recover unsaved work after a reboot.
    6. Check for Hardware or Driver Issues:
      • If the computer still freezes, there may be defective hardware or a malfunctioning device driver.
      • Inspect components like the hard driveRAM, and video card.
      • Overheating can also cause freezes, so ensure proper cooling.

Remember, diagnosing computer issues can be complex, and it’s essential to rule out both software and hardware problems. If the problem persists, consider seeking professional assistance or referring to specific guides for your operating system. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
