Acer Aspire A-3 My laptop randomly goes blank and stops responding

I have used this Acer Aspire A-3 for about four years now.

In the last few days it has started doing something strange: sometimes instead of recovering from stand-by, the screen remains black and it is irresponsive to any input. In this situation the fan blows and the led is blue, but it doesn't enter stand by again if I press the relative button.

It remains in this state for an indefinite amount of time. All I can do is shut it down with the power button and boot it up again, after which it works fine.

Might it be because I keep a significative number of Chrome browser tabs always open? Or should I start worrying about the hardware?

Which Aspire model do you have, as saying Aspire A-3 means nothing, it should be something like A315-xx, as then we can give you a much more accurate answer and parts for your laptop that you will need. I suggest that you do a Hard Reset first, as your laptops EC or Chipset chips could be partially frozen and need resetting as they are not executing their functions properly.

Unscrew your laptops back cover off, take the main battery out, disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then shot this batteries mainboard plug +&- pins with a metal object to reset the CMOS, then take the ram out, and then leave the laptop like that for 1 hour (preferably overnight) and then reconnect everything but if you have 2x ram modules only connect one and alternate between the two as it could be a ram problem also.

If the laptop still has the same problem, then its internally and it could be the eDP data cable is damaged, hence and why its not giving you an image and/or the eDP plugs at the screen or mainboard has shorted pins, or the screen is faulty. For all this you need to take your laptop to an experienced technician that can analyze your laptop screen faults as its a complex issue. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

This is what I recommend, Upgrade to Windows11 23H2 build 22631.3296 or if you already updated W11 refresh the system: Go online and open the Command Prompt as Administrator and paste this: Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth after completion paste this in the command prompt: SFC /scannow and repeat till you see "….did not find any integrity violations". Check if you have the latest BIOS version and in Device Manager if you see any yellow exclamation marks and/or greyed-out Unknown Devices uninstall those, expand also the Hidden devices. Open the errors in Event Viewer at the time of the last crash and check if there is a reference made to the GPU/video driver, also check Reliability History Problem reports at the time of the last crash, if you see anywhere a mention of display or video you have to uninstall the display driver in Safe Mode with DDU (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000091878/graphics.html). MS recommends using Edge as your default browser (not 3rd-party browsers) and to disable Hibernate and Fast Startup, reset the Power Plan to factory defaults and if you use Acer's custom Power Plan change that to Windows default Power Plan.
