Why is the touchpad not working on my Aspire A515-57 laptop?

The laptop works fine with a wireless mouse.

    It may not work together, try to turn off the mouse. Also check in Device Manager Human Interface Devices if you see the 12C HID device, if not boot to BIOS with F2 and check if the Touchpad setting shows 12C HID or PS/2. Change that to 12C HID and save settings on exit, reboot to Windows and check in Device Manager if you see 12C HID (Touchpad driver). If still not showing uninstall the Elan 12C Filter driver in Mice and other Pointing Devices and if you see any yellow exclamation marks and (greyed-out) Unknown Devices, also show and expand the Hidden Devices, uninstall those too. Reboot and Windows will install the MS Precision driver.
