Hi all,

I love this laptop, and cant stand ***** on the keyboard, so bought an ultra thin skin (0.2mm) thin and managed to register 4 fingers no issues. Worked fine for weeks.

This was after many failed attempts with thicker skins and just cutting the power button out, but yea its used allot and I don't want ***** getting in there.

So, was working, now not working, is there any way to increase the scanner intensity?

And how do find out what is the correct/best driver for it.

MS update or driver change I suspect has made it weak.

Does anyone actually know where I can read how the power/Fingerprint scanner does it scanning. Like the technical close up of how it works?

Or a link to a power button/scanner friendly approved keyboard skin for the

ACER SFG16-71

Need to pump up the scanning power lol…

Thanks all,

N

IMO, not possible for Windows Hello fingerprint logon but as you found out thin skins (and surgical gloves) work with Touchpads. There are 2 devices, MS Precision is controlling the 12C HID (touchpad) and the fingerprint scanner is different for each model laptop. Check the Windows registry if there is a sensitivity value for "Carewe" or "EGISTEC" fingerprint scanners but make sure you export the key(s) first before editing.

Try to use compatible skin for sensor to work or use a pin or password to login. Clean the skin with a dry cloth and then use the sensor.

Thank you both for the info, I will check out the registry back it up definitely first. I have tried cleaning the skin to no avail. If i could find finger print compatible skin, I would buy it. But best i could find was the ultra thin 0.2mm skin, and it did work fine for weeks, i shall investigate more, arguably the most used and critical button on the machine, and no one thought of a skin for it to utilize this otherwise useful feature. And or provide a camera that is IR capable and would work with windows hello. I wish it was like my security cameras, when I'm not home GPS on mobile turns internal CCTV cameras on. then when I'm home they are turned of automatically inside for privacy. No one is going to get into my laptop here, as i live alone, and its a pain in the[Sensitive Content] constantly using a pin, no facial recognition, and finger print scanner has become fizzled out. My laptop, being mobile should through some mechanism, realize im at home, no need to lock, on rare occasion i take it out, then okay, pin me all day.

You could always just cut that small section out of the skin. There wouldn't be all that much exposure to dirt, since it's such a small area, and the button isn't one that's used a lot.
