I need to replace the Bootable M.2 256G SSD on my Aspire R5-571TG-7229. What 512G SSD are capable of this, as I read some SSDs won't boot! This replaces my only drive on the laptop. I assume I can then load Win10 without anything but the USB boot I will need to make. Thanks

This says bootable but still hoping someone can confirm for my laptop model…

    MP600 GS 500GB PCIe 4.0 (Gen 4) x4 NVMe M.2 SSD

You might have to change the boot drive in your BIOS settings and also install Windows onto the new drive to give it a boot partition

The Aspire R5-571TG Acer quotes an M.2 SSDs of either size(s) 2242-2260-2280 - SATA or Gen3x2 SSD in the specs, which points toward it being a SATA interface, not NVMe. The Gen 3 x2 means that an NVMe x2 drive might work, but it wouldn't be much faster than an M.2 SATA SSD drive, so to be safe stick with a M.2 SATA. Ignore any size restrictions as and drives size restriction in windows OS, is only limited to the MBR/Legacy format which is a max 2TB drive while the GUID (GPT) format is max 8 petabytes (if you can reach that capacity), Get a PCIe3x4 M.2 SSD like a WD 1TB SN530 M.2 SSD as its a suitable spec M.2 SSD drive and reasonably priced mid-range drive, you will be wasting your money if you buy a Gen4 x4 M.2 SSD drive. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

it looks like your computer will not support that SSD because it is a PCIe 4.0 gen 4 SSD. Your computer does not look like it supports PCIe 4.0. You will probably need PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD or a SATA SSD.

Here is a NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD 500GB with TLC NAND.

This 2.5" SATA III one is very nice, too. It has MLC NAND which is very durable.

You might have to change a setting in your BIOS to boot from the new drive, and install a bootable partition to it

Thanks for all responses. I replaced with Crucial 1TB from Best Buy shelf PCIe 3.0 NVMe M2.0 SSD and am thrilled! Boots clean Win10 in less than 5 sec. No issues installing. Love my 7 year old Acer once again. Now to install all my other sw ugh!
