I have been trying to update the M.2 drives in my Predator Helios 300 (PH315-53) to larger drives. The computer works fine with the drives in it now, but I need extra storage. I previously upgrade to a larger SSD drive with no issues. Anyway, I want to replace them with 4TB M.2 drives, but when I put one of those drives in the computer, the computer refuses to boot but goes into the BSOD, giving me a "kernel security check error". It doesn't matter what slot I put them in. I have cloned the original drives to the larger drives, but that doesn't make a difference. I can remove one and leave the "C" drive in, and it will work fine with only the original drive in it and nothing in the 2nd slot. I can even put the C drive into the 2nd slot with nothing in the first and it works, fine. However, when I try to put the larger drive into any slot, it refuses to boot. I have changed the bios multiple times, trying to see if I could fix it there. I've changed the boot order, disabled safe boot, etc. with no effect. I have made a USB drive as a recovery startup drive, but I can't seem to get that to boot up either (with the new M.2 drives installed, even by changing the bios. I can see the files in File Explorer. Right now, I am making another recovery drive. I don't want to lose the programs and apps I have on the computer, so I haven't reinstalled Windows. I reluctant to, particularly if it's something else. Everything is up to date, with all updates for Windows and the computer. The M.2 drives work if I have them in an enclosure and connect via USB, but the computer won't boot from them, even with the cloned startup drive. (I didn't expect it too, but am trying everything I can think of) I can see the files and use them for backups, but they just won't work when I try to put them in the computer itself. The computer won't boot. Any suggestions? I use the computer for photography that I do on the road at automobile races. I need the storage on the computer itself. Putting them on external drives, editing, renaming, etc., along with using OneDrive connected to my home computer, creates nightmares for me with duplicate copies, etc.
