Hi, I have a predator g3-710 currently with an i5-6400 CPU and a gtx 1060 GPU. I want to upgrade both the GPU and CPU. I already have a great deal on a 1080 Ti GPU and now Im wondering about which CPU that will be a good fit both for my motherboard and for the 1080 Ti. Also Im wondering if my motherboard is compatible with th 1080 Ti.

The Predator G3-710 desktop was also released from Acer with the B150 chipset mainboard and 7th Gen cpu's like the Socket 1151 i5-7600K or the i7-7700K which will fit into your i5-6400 mainboard Socket 1151, it was also fitted oem from Acer with either a GTX 1060 GDDRV 3GB or a GTX 1070 GDDRV 8GB or a GTX 1080 GDDRVX 8GB to the oem 730W PSU - FSP750-80EGN(A01001) APFC - Acer part #: DC.73018.001. So, these are the upgrades options that you should consider but if you do, you need to update the G3-710 bios to its last version R02-B2. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

There were actually two different motherboards for those models, the 6th gen version and a 7th gen version. They have different BIOS versions. I don't believe you can jump generations on the same motherboard. You can put an i7-6700 in instead of your i5-6400, but it likely won't give a big improvement in performance. Stay away from the K model CPUs, your BIOS doesn't support their extra features and you would need to revamp the cooling to use them since they draw a lot more power. To make the move to a 7th gen CPU you will need a new motherboard and memory as well, since the 7th gen runs at a different speed.

For a GPU the power budget and physical size are your only real limitations.
