Aspire 5534 won't boot, has black screen

Aspire 5534 running Linux Mint

Powers on (power switch lights, cooling fan runs, disc drive briefly starts then stops), won't boot, black screen, Function keys unresponsive (can't access bios), tried the "hold the power button down" trick without result. Have boot order set to check USB/CD first (I sometimes boot from USB drive, but now it won't). I tried to check the 1.5 V battery but don't know how to get the case apart. What do you suggest? I like this computer and want to continue using it. Thank you

Have you tried with and without the Battery?

It sounds like maybe there is a power imbalance in the board a new Motherboard could be in order.

Or you could grab a replacement for under 60 bucks on Ebay https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=acer+aspire+5534&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

Just some additional things that you can do, check the power switch if its working and its not faulty first, it doesn't matter if the switch lights up, as and if the switch is faulty then this switch needs to be replaced as that is what is stopping the laptop from booting. The other thing that you can do is to do a hard reset, take the battery out and disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and short its mainboard +&- pins to reset CMOS then take the ram out and leave the laptop like that for at least 1 hour or preferably overnight to reset the EC and chipset chips then reconnect everything and only boot the laptop with 1x ram module, and see if the laptop reset. If the hard reset doesn't work, then its the EC or the chipset that have issues or you have a and eDP cable/plug issue or screen issue that all need to be checked out by an experienced technician. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
